Hi to all

I just received a parcel of used KGV stamps, many different denominations, but lots of two penny reds, but assorted watermarks.

These items stood out like a sore thumb when I put them in a tray to sort them into values.

The first stamp, the wattles are clearly visible on the left hand side, but on the right hand side all colour and shape are missing. Also the emu has a twig or a worm in its mouth. The worm fault is well known.

The enlarged microscope photos show that the postmark does go through the left hand wattles, so the fault lies with the printing.

I have never ever owned a KGB stamp like this, is this from a plate damaged by mouse wee?

There is no loose fibres as well, so it is not damaged in anyway.

The one penny red, well I thought that I would show that as a possible example of a paper join.

regards

Your 2d is from die 3, either small multi or C of A watermark, I can see this based on the thickness of the '2's.

You say the 'worm flaw' is well known, where did you get this information, I have never heard of it and I have several thousand copies of this stamp.

Possibly rather than an errant mouse there could have been some glue or similar splashed on the paper preventing the ink from sticking.

There were some 1d coils produced, maybe a coil join? Not my area so maybe someone else will be able to help with this.

Hi Tasnaki

Thanks for the helpful info.

I may have seen the worm flaw in one of the articles by Dr Starling in the Australian Stamp professional, but I have to find where I put all my copies, as I moved my library, and may have put them in storage in a large box in the garage.

I have many thousands of the KGV stamps, all values, and I would say that there is a bout 200 that are in the lot I just purchased, so it will be interesting to see what might turn up.

I definitely have seen the worm flaw previously.
