Hi All

Not sure if my thought process is correct so I am seeking advice. I have been working on a Lundy Island stamp album, mounting stamps with black Unitrade stamp mounts.(Using mounts for the first time) Everything was going well until I came across triangle stamps. How do I mount them? Do I purchase mounting strips and cut them to size (and shape) ?? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I used to trim to fit as much as possible but now I use clear mounts so it is less important visually.

re: Triangle Stamps and Mounts

For such stamps, I cut the mounts like this:

First cut: the length of the widest part of the stamp (usually the bottom for triangle stamps

Second cut: along one of the other edges of the stamp giving about a 2mm edge

Third cut: the same as the second cut

Fourth step: mount the stamp on the album page wetting only the bottom edge of the mount

I use the larger Showgard mount cutter. It has a clear plastic edge on the cutter that if you look at it has about a 2mm line just inside of the cutting edge. Use that as your guide.

I also use split-back mounts, but this should work with the open top mounts too.

Here is a picture that I hastily took from my albums to illustrate how the final product looks. It is important to leave that flat edge on the top to maintain a strong seam for the mount.

Here is how I have come to handle circular stamps. I think this looks better than other ways that I have tried to cut the mounts. Now I cut the mount as if the stamp were a square or rectangle, and trim as needed to fit the album page. I used to trim the mounts to the shape of the circular stamps, but I didn't like how that looked, and the stamps tended to fall out of the mounts.
