Well, at least I got to have a haircut in the Penny Lane barber shop.

The hairstyle looks a bit Japanese to me, but the inscription doesn't match my other Japan stamps or anything in my old H.E. Harris Stamp Finder.

Help! Thanks.

That's not an easy one to find in the Scott catalog. Fortunately I have that stamp too. Anyhow, it is Republic of China (Taiwan), Scott #1508, issued in 1967.

Japanese stamps can be identified by either/or the word "NIPPON", or the double box character that looks like a square number "8".

Thanks, Dave & Michael.

I looked for the boxy 8 too, but figured it might be an earlier Japanese inscription.

My mid-Sixties Ambassador album doesn't have a separate section for Taiwan or Republic of China. Was H.E. Harris afraid of offending Communist China back then?!

Until President Nixon's trip to PR China, those stamps were embargoed, so no album spaces.

re: Embargo

Mainland China is no less touchy on that subject, as the general manager of the Houston Rockets has learned.
