Oceania/Australia : CHRISTMAS 1964

Hi to all

After very careful examination, I am of the opinion that the stamp that the stamp on the left is a case of possible ink stripping, rather than fading. Both are MNH.

Even the face on the girl is a lighter colour, and the manger is a bit patchy as well. The UV does not show any indication of tampering.

All opinion appreciated.

Regards

re: CHRISTMAS 1964

Hi Horamakhet

How I see this -

1. It's been ink stripped, if so, you have a nice little investment there, as there are many variations of ink stripping for this particular Xmas stamp.
2. It may have been affected by exposure to light.

But as it is MNH, and that exposure to the light would also affect all the images and the paper and gum, and by what I can see not all the images and the paper are affected, it seems that though not a prominent variety it is indeed ink stripped.

re: CHRISTMAS 1964

Hi Rob

Thanks for that, Much appreciated.

Its a nice little find.

When I get tired of sorting KGV & KGVI, I take a break and look at the QEII items, and I have so many christmas stamps, mostly used, but there were a few MNH in the accumulation.

Do you know or have you heard if and when Brunsden-White are going to do colour versions of Queen Elizabeth decimal stamps. My copies are so old, but I only have Decimals II & III both published in 2002, but I can't complain too much as I got them in the local opp shop for $5.00 the pair.

I am so used to the new colour catalogues in KGV & KGVI and QEII pre-decimals, that I think the sooner all are in colour the better.

Well back to the sorting, this time the QEII pre-decimal portraits, and Royal Visits.

re: CHRISTMAS 1964

Hi Horamakhet

The very question was recently asked will there be a colour version of the QEII Decimals I – III. Geoff said there is talk that there might be a colour version but nothing serious has come out of it, but there could be a colour version sometime in the future.
