Collecting one stamp for each of the 1.5 Million children murdered in The Holocaust.

This was certainly an interesting month.

Steve Wilner ("cardstamp") sent yet another of many donations from his unsold stamps on SOR, which always have great potential for finding relevant postmarks for our "Countries/Towns Affected by The Holocaust" series. Many thanks Steve for your consistent ongoing support.

Then, within a 2-day period all of these arrived...

From Richard Willis ("rwillis29") two lots of beautiful stamps. All sadly damaged by being scotch-taped to album pages. (I think I heard Dave "lemaven" crying when they arrived). But again, there is great potential for finding relevant postmarks for our "Countries/Towns Affected by The Holocaust" series.

This is also a good reminder that people's lives were "thrown away" in The Holocaust because they were considered different/lesser/imperfect; so for us, every stamp we get (no matter if a collector thinks it to be useless) represents one of the 1.5 million children "thrown away" in The Holocaust. Each is in a way precious and useful as a reminder.

Then a huge box from fellow Canadian Vic Deacon ("sheepshanks") in Neepawa
Manitoba (a place so far North I don't think they have trees, let alone sheep!) Vic generously suggested that after we counted them towards the project we could sell whatever might bring in some money to offset expenses. Mikwec.

And this was followed by another big box, courtesy of Sally Maier ("smaier"). Apparently Sally didn't want to pay the usurious postal rates to ship to Canada, so instead she dragged her spouse up for a "Canadian vacation" in Thunder Bay and dropped it off at one of our sister companies who shipped it to us. Well, at least a $112 motel in Canada only costs $42 in US$ and probably included a heart-shaped bed. Laughing

Again, many thanks for your support. Dave ("lemaven") has found a history student who is helping with some tremendous work on his project about the postal history of WWII and The Holocaust. And we have a few groups willing to count the stamps. But we continue to struggle finding someone to help with the coding of our website (which could be a game-changer). Hopefully something will come through soon. But in the meanwhile, the support of the SOR community is greatly appreciated.

Craig.
