Hi all

Maybe this is one for Rob as I know he has expertise in the field of the Coat of Arms

This stamp has some interesting colour bleed or inking, not sure which.

also there is red blob near the 5/-

Can you post the entire stamp.

re: FIVE SHILLING COAT OF ARMS, BLEED OR EXTRA INKING

Hi Rob

Hope this is better

The wavy lines under the swan are blurred as well, and so is the lion, and just above the back of the emu also, and the leaves behind the roo also looked blurred.

Pity it is used. The postmark is pretty yucky as well. There is a tear near one of the perfs on the left hand side as well.

it was among the 4500 stamps that I am sorting.

I have noticed about three shades of the 10/- as well, but this one really stood out in the 5/-

re: FIVE SHILLING COAT OF ARMS, BLEED OR EXTRA INKING

Hi Horamakhet

It looks more like the ink ran after it was soaked off paper as the cancellation is also affected the same way.

If that stamp was MNH, then it would be over-inked and I would be drooling.

You say that you have noticed about three shades of the 10/- as well, here is my full ACSC set of shades and unlisted shades as well, you can compare your 10/- shades with mine, then on the other hand you might have an unlisted shade or two.

Hi Rob

Thanks for that, I sort of suspected that, but you never know what is lurking out there waiting to be found.

How do you manage to scan your fantastic collection in lovely straight lines, I can never achieve that.
If I try to scan them as many the upload image tells me that it is too large to upload.

Well back to sorting the 4500 for me, and once I have them in stock books, then I can leisurely examine each one.

I will scan the 10/- COA, and when you have time, could you advise me if I do have three different colours in the used ones from this collection.

Regard

Hi Rob and everyone else

Rob, these are the better condition 10/- COA in the conglomeration.

I think that there are three distinct colours there, but I am no authority on the colours.

Wish they had been MNH, but they are unhinged, which is one benefit

It's definitely worth looking for uncatalogued items.

I found this in my stock a few days ago. Lines and damage across both stamps, which may be plate damage, or may be oil or somesuch on the plate. Either way, it's striking

re: FIVE SHILLING COAT OF ARMS, BLEED OR EXTRA INKING

Hi Horamakhet

It’s impossible without the right software; I use Microsoft Office 2010 and Microsoft PowerPoint 2010. With Office 2010, it has an “Edit Pictures” when an image is loaded into it, and PowerPoint gives me the option to resize the image and position it. I also need what is called "Easy Screen Capture 2"; I need all 3 software to create the uniform sizes, and placing all the stamps directly under each other.

If you look at all the text, they too are in a straight line and exactly in the same horizontal and vertical position. The entire process takes a little time, the collection of Arms I uploaded took me several hours to get the display the way you see it.

Scan the 10/- CofA and I’ll see if I can identify the shades or if it is unlisted.

Hi Horamakhet

I didn’t realise you already posted the 10/- stamps. You do have three shades, and as the stamps were soaked off paper, I was going to say that the first stamp may have faded rather than a different shade, but the cancellations show little distortion from soaking, unlike the 5/- stamp, and does not match the wear of the stamps.

Being soaked and obviously handled over the years the stamps have lost a bit of the brightness and ink that it originally held, I can still make out the shades.

Left – Right

Nos 1: Pale Purple
Nos 2 & 3: Dull Purple
Nos 4 & 5: Bright Purple

Hi Dave

Quite an interesting pair. The pair are also well centred which is uncommon for KGV stamps.

Hi Rob

Thanks for that, very helpful.

Dave's pair of KGV are really nice, as you said, it is hard to find a nicely centred pair from that era.

Hi Horamakhet

Glad to help. I had noticed for awhile that trying to find a well centred KGV side-face (especially a joined pair), one would have a better chance finding a needle in a haystack.
