I'm sure there's at least one other out there who appreciates morricone's genious - excellently reproduced by sarah hicks and the DSO - classical for the not classical - not your typical symphony show... bon appetite spaghetti at its best

That was a great video! GB&U is one of my favorite movies of all-time. As the music played, the scenes from the movie flashed through my mind.

It was interesting to see how the music piece was performed. Also, the extra set decorations were interesting, like the cowboy hanging from a rope!

The Danish Symphony Orchestra has multiple videos on movie soundtracks. In this video, I get to see how some of the sounds are actually created.

I think I'll go out back, stick in a DVD and watch a spaghetti western. Did you notice the clip with Eastwood's shadow on the back wall? Great stuff! Some of the best movies ever made. My favorite western is still The Magnificent Seven, but the Eastwood Trilogy is a close second. I have them all on DVD and just enough time to watch a few starting right now!!!

I met a non-philatelic friend today for lunch and told him about this link. He's going to check it out too.

I agree that the urge to stop what I'm doing and go watch the movie is strong. Now someone had to mention "The Magnificent Seven" (original version, I hope). I'll have to add that to the list!

Brilliant performance.

However, now I'm very thirsty ... I didn't realize that the Modelo Especial beer commercial aired in North America used the second part of GB & U as its music. Big Grin

I will never watch either the remake of the Magnificent Seven movie, the TV series based on the movie or the sequels to the movie. The original movie is a classic, especially the first part where they are gathering "The Seven" together. I've watched the whole movie at least half a dozen times and the first half many more. A real classic!

If you like The Magnificent Seven have you seen Seven Samurai by Kurosawa upon which that film is based? Riveting! He was a genius!

I think Kurosawa's work is extraordinary and Seven Samurai is a masterpiece but I wouldn't even put it in the same genre as the Magnificent Seven which is basically an entertaining action film. They are both good in their own sphere. Peckinpah's Wild Bunch is another top notch western with a bit more meat on it. I think Once Upon a time in the West with Fonda, Cardinale, and Bronson is an often overlooked spaghetti.

I saw the Kurosawa movie, I don't have a copy but I should try to re-watch it sometime. How about the episode of the British TV show The Avengers called "The Superlative Seven"? I bet that's a take-off that few of you have seen!

That Avengers episode was called "A Touch of Brimstone". You can find the scene with Emma in leathers on YouTube in slow motion with back up music by Henry Mancini. It's a must see for all Emma Peel ( the name came from M-appeal ) fans!
