Unfortunately I have no idea of the catalog value for this. Perhaps it is listed in Unitrade? Roy should have an idea. I suspect that it is quite a bit higher than $10 though although the pinhole may be an issue.

My Unitrade (2008) makes no mention of Plate Proofs for this issue. Perhaps a later version may. Since the auction is not until next May, I have a little time to scour the internet and see if one is for sale. Or we could list it with "????" as the value and see what happens!
Thank you
George
If you will be equipped to take mail bids for the auction, please post a notice here on Stamporama closer to the event with a link to any available online lot descriptions with pictures. I'm sure there will be interest.
This may not be a plate proof, but rather an imperforate single of #86a (priced as a pair)
The following auction realizations may help:
Sparks Sale #30
Note that Sparks is describing a very similar stamp as 86a single. (click on the small image for an enlargement).

My copy of "Essays and Proofs of British North America" (Minuse and Pratt 1970) lists only progressive plate proofs of this issue with various parts of the design only, as well as a complete plate proof on stamp paper, but in all black.

Roy,
Thanks. I checked the item against my issued stamps and the paper is not what I would associate with a proof (India or card). It definitely feels like the issued stamp paper. I think we will go with 86a with an explanation that it is valued as a pair.
Thanks,
George
Jerrel,
I usually post a notice about the upcoming Stamp Out Cancer Auction once our volunteers begin to develop the auction list. We have been conducting the auction for 43 years now and have generated more than $285,000 for the American Cancer Society. The items come from Quad City Stamp Club members and other donors throughout the country. 100% of the successful bids are donated to the American Cancer Society. The club covers all the associated costs - room rental, printing and advertizing.
As we get closer to getting the auction list together I will post a notice with a link to the list on the QCSC website.
George
Thanks. I will be looking for it.
The map proofs are extremely rare - imperf sounds better
Ray,
After a couple of weeks trying to rid myself of a pretty bad cold, I checked in to SOR and found that you had replied to my inquiry about what has been identified as a proof of Canada Scott 86.
Per Roy Lingen, he believes it is a single of the imperforate 86a and not a proof. Your posting now leads me back to it being a proof. Your list is for 85 not 86 and the closest I can see is 85PP4. The item is definitely on paper very similar to the paper of the regular issue.
Since the CV for the 86a ($700 for imperf pair) and for 85PP4 ($500), I think we will list it in the Stamp Out Cancer Auction as "Canada 86a Sc 86. Either 86a or plate proof. Estimated CV $400."
Thanks for the input.
George
The next Stamp Out Cancer Auction sponsored by the Quad City Stamp Club is scheduled for May 16, 2020. But donations have already to arrive! One item that was included in a 30 carton donation is this proof of Canada 86.
Any idea of what CV I should put on this for the auction? Hate to give it an estimate of $10 and then find out it is valued at $500.
Just noticed a pinhole in the upper right corner. OOPS!
Thanks,
George
PS: Higher res scans are available.
