Middle East/All : Scott Begins to List Trucial States in the 2020 Catalogue

Scott has announced that added stamp listings totaling 461 new major numbers and many more minor numbers have been added to the Scott Catalogue Volume 5 for Ras al Khaima. This covers Ras al Khaima up to 1970, with 1971-1972 under review for a future catalogue update.

Over the past couple of years there has been a push to give catalogue status of the individual Trucial States and South Arabia stamps, many of which were valid postage stamps. A precedent for this is years ago, Scott listed the large number of formerly unlisted stamps from Yemen. In addition, many stamps from many countries beyond the Middle East have been listed by Scott, and continue to be so, over the past 20 or so years.

The new editor of the Scott Catalogues, Jake Bigalke, is open minded to this, so watch over the next few years as these stamps become listed in the catalogues. In the US, we won't need the Michel Gulf States Catalogue anymore.

Of course the other question is will Scott create album pages for all these stamps for both Specialty and International album sets? Steiner does for most, but he isn't complete.

Michael, i heard that in Bellefonte yesterday...should be interesting..there are sheaves of that stuff just sitting in plastic bags...i imagine most of the catalog values will be minimal.

Minimal value for a good percentage of them (those that are CTO), but you might be surprised about how high some that are not CTO will be valued, as well as those that are postally used.

Does Scott list Fujeira? I saw an amazing exhibit of postal history at Melbourne 2013, all genuine postally used. On cover prices for any of the trucial states should be good.

Scott lists many from Fujeira, and many stamps the other Sheikdoms. The "wallpapery" stamps have been excluded for decades. That most likely is going to be changing in the next few years.

Has anyone seen a 2020 to see how extensive they did list them such as Mutawakelite Kingdom?

Scott doesn't list them (Yemen). What they added several years ago is the YAR issues from the 1960s and 1970s.

The Ras Al Khaima new listings in the 2020 catalogue only go up to 1970.
While that is nice to see, one still needs to Michel Gulf States Catalogue to get full listings from all the sheikdoms.
