re: tiger cat

Hi Pooh

There are two types, 1st Master Plate which has two shades, Red-Brown and Brown. There is also the 2nd Master Plate, which also has two shades, Red-Brown and Light Brown. There is also Helecon and non-Helecon paper (the Helecon paper will glow under a UV light in darkness).

There are many varieties of these stamps; the stamp on the left seems to be from the 2nd Master Plate, though the stamp on the right may be from either the 1st or 2nd Master Plate.

The white mark from the “I” of “AUSTRALIA” may be one of many varieties not listed. The stamp was issued on May 11, 1960 and was printed on unwatermarked paper. The Helecon paper was issued on April 5, 1965.

re: tiger cat

It could have happened through transit or from a paper fold,it is impossible to actually say what caused it unless the mark is scrutinised close-up.

Pooh

Your white mark could be caused by a paper tear. Check it again please.
