I also found this a pleasant background listen for, as you say, just about anything.

I even sent them a few bucks.

Cheers,

re: WRDV

We stream 24hrs a day. Live broadcasts from 8:00 am to 1:00 am. We play big Band & Swing 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. There is a nice variety of music in the evening 7:00 to 1:00, Blues, polka, Jazz, country, some early Gospel Music and more. Weekends we have a Rock & Roll format. I have been a listener and supporter for at least 20 years. I became a DJ about three & a half years ago. Monday evenings I play Blues from 10 to 1, the show is Blues in The Night. Friday Mornings 8 to 12 noon I play Big Band & Swing.

We are a community supported all volunteer station, no one gets paid. In fact we pay a monthly "tuition" to do our shows. We do have a station library of more than 22,000 different tracks of Big Band music, although most of the music you hear comes from each of the DJ's own music library.

This was something I wanted to do when I retired and I have been retired for about five years. It is a lot of fun.

Thank you Ikey for your donation. The station manager runs a tight ship so you cane be assured your money will not be spent wastefully. All the music in our library is donated by the DJs.

There are some decent locally supported stations still around. My favorite station is WCPE. They air classical music 24x7 with live hosts. It is all listener funded and streams over the Internet.

re: WRDV

Blues?

Yes - love it.

Big Band?

I can listen - yes.

Classical?

No.

Three types of music I can't do;

1. Classical (Long-hair)
2. Opera
3. Rap* (these are not 'songs')

(*one exception to #3:
"Walk This Way" by Aerosmith - the first hit Rap song!)

Just a note;

the above post was NOT intended as a 'dig' on the music genres named;

only a personal opinion!

If anyone here is a fan of any styles of music mentioned, I salute you!

Play on!!

Another good station is KBRD 680 in Olympia, Washington. They advertise that they play music from 1890s to the 1970s. They do as advertised, and mixed them all through the day. I listen to them every now and then and am amazed at the songs I hear. They do swing, flapper era, western, 50s - 60s hits and songs I never heard before.

re: WRDV

I saved that station to my favorites.

Here is a site where you can download for free some long forgotten 78's. I have a large number of tracks I downloaded in my library that I use on air when I'm broadcasting. We are always getting donations to the station from listeners and we have a few DJs able to clean up and copy the 78's that are missing in our library. Any 78's not needed I take to the Great 78 Project.

re: WRDV

I've been listening to WRDV now off and on for a week since I learned about it. What a wonderful place! Who knew Stamporama would introduce something like this to me. I already enjoy the model railroading sites. Do you play any Raymond Scott? Happy

You have to understand that Randy is a Tigers fan, so the "blues" would be a natural music selection for him to listen to. Rolling On The Floor Laughing
