I purchased a 12x12 album off amazon as an experiment as a mint sheet album. This is a comparison between the 8½x11 and 12x12 binders These are We R Memory Keepers. They do not come with a slip case.
I was wondering if anybody had any thoughts on the use of 12" x 12" paper for album design. Commercial albums generally use a larger size page than the standard 8.5 x 11 and I've read comments that the Steiner pages seem to be somewhat crowded due to the page size limitation. I have checked on the pricing of the Scott Specialty blank pages and the Schaubek blank pages. The Scott pages can be purchased for about $.40 a page and the Schaubek pages can be purchased for about $.24 per page. The binders for Scott Specialty and Schaubek tend to run $40 or more. It occurred to me that because of limited market for collectors supplies, products designed for a broader market would be available at more competitive prices. Apparently there is a fairly robust market for scrapbooking supplies and 12 x 12 is a fairly standard page size. Binders for 12 x 12 pages are also widely available and are used both for scrapbooking and for photo albums. Both pages and binders are usually acid-free and archival. 12 x 12 acid-free and lignin free 80# paper can be purchased for $.19 per sheet. A Pioneer scrapbook binder with 2 1/2 inch D-rings can be purchased for $12 (Adorama).
