Jings!...Crivvens...Help Ma Boab!

My flabber has never been so gasted!

I put up an Approval Book of Portugal containing 125 Used stamps, within a few hours 123 of the stamps had been bought.

Thank you to one and all!!

Is this a record?

Has anybody ever sold 100% of the stamps in a book?

All hail to Stamporama!!

re: Flabbergasted!

I did a month or so ago, but it was to someone who asked for a specific thing and then bought it all

I have had many books that eventually sold out 100% over a period time but 123 out of 125 in a few hours could be a record ! Steve

I had a few books that sold out 100% in a matter of hours, but those are exceptions. Most of the time it happened with unusual suspects, like Belgian precancels or San Marino. Topics / countries where I would have been happy if I sold 20% but never expected to sell them all...

best wishes,
Jan-Simon

I've had a few books that sold 100% fairly quickly but that was back in the early days of Approval Books. Today 30% to 40% is more like it, a few even less.

re: Flabbergasted!

That's true. I see that as well and of the last 40 or so new books only a few have been emptied for more than 50%. Then again, there is a huge supply and only a limited number of buyers, who will inevitably reach a point where their collections expanded that much they do not really need that many "common" stamps anymore.

Very true jansimon.

Due to this "saturation point" I have tried putting up books with better stamps and sets. (Aye rrraphy!! Me, "better" stamps!!)

The results have not been great so far but I shall persevere.

re: Flabbergasted!

Some years ago I posted a book with ALgerian (or Marruecos, maybe) commemoratives, and all went away immediately.
Now-a-days it seems to be hard to reach this point. On one side, as Jan-Simon says, there is only a limited number of members active in buying from approvals. And most good stamps go away before you can even have a look at them.
I was more or less lucky with IanĀ“s Portugal, because when I opened my computer he was just putting his book up. But after I bought stamps from the first three pages and went further on, all pages were already sold.

People who stay all the time in front of the computer (dealers?) will be in advantage to buy the better bargains sometimes offered in the books... but

Anyway, I think that Stamporama approvals books is great idea.

Ian--

I saw your recent Portugal--I just won a box of Portugal and Colonies and once it arrives I'll be checking what I need, if you still have it around. I'll let you know.

jkc1999:-

Hope you find some good stamps in your box of Portugal.

Just be aware that most, if not all, the early stamps, Up to the King Carlos issues, were reprinted several times with different perfs, papers and gums. I'm still trying to get my head around how to tell the difference between all the variations.
