Peru is one of my favorite countries to collect and one that I highly recommend
You can see my Peru collection which is nearly complete by following the link below.
Also a link to Puerto Rico and Philippines is below. Viewing them should help you decide if you will want to collect any of them.
You will need to cut and paste the links into your browser command line.

Harvey, you need to understand one thing about what has happened to you. It is an incurable affliction. You will never recover. It opens an entire new avenue for you, so enjoy!
Its an affliction...so we are not bad people ?

I would have thought that the trick was how to not start yet another country.

Find out something about your new countries - these days that is so easy to do compared with, say, 30 years ago. Here are a few ideas to start with:
Who were their presidents or royalty?
What landmarks have been chosen to feature on their stamps, and whereabouts in the country are they?
Are the fauna and flora depicted genuinely native to the country (they might well be on earlier stamps, but more recent stamps are issued willy-nilly to 'topical' collectors and may have nothing to do with Peru or Puerto Rico).
Use a catalogue to check how many issues are made annually, and whether this has changed over time. Were there any political upheavals which may have caused a hiatus in stamp issuing?
Many countries have famous men or women commemorated on stamps about whom we know rather little - again it is so much easier to find out about them now than it was.
Good hunting!
Not as easy as Prince Leonard of Hutt River might have made it seem.
Hi All
I just got out of the Rehabilitation Hospital For Addicted Stamp Collectors. The news I got was that there isn't any cure for me. What made it more frustrating for them was my reaction to this statement when I told them that I am happy anyway. For days I couldn't get the image out of my head of all those doctors shaking their heads in bewilderment.
Anyway, enjoy your new interest. All it can do is get better.
Happy collecting.

Bujutsu, compadre...i have seen people improve...someone who would once pay 18,000 percent of catalog reduce the urge and only pay 300 percent...thats a huge improvement. I was in Hudson state hospital which is usually throw away the key, then i think it was old man Cuomo shut the place down and would house 12 or 14 of us in group type homes like Ranch houses..from there it was Adios !
I myself have been wrestling with whether or not to start
a new collecting interest - South American countries, as rrralphy has shown..
I love WW revenues, and am quite fond of most from the South American
countries, especially from the classic era.
And in turn, I am also becoming quite fond of the regular issues
from these same countries.
However, with an accumulation of 26+ different philatelic interests already,
I hesitate to take on 14 more!

All the responses made me realize that either I'm not crazy at all or at least I am no worse than the rest of you. I have the first 3 volumes on Scott's World album which, if I remember right takes me close to 1960. I went off collecting for a while and got back into it 5 years ago when my wife died. I'm going through the Scott's album now listing interesting countries and I think it's time to give up when your list of interesting areas is longer than the non-interesting ones. I already have very serious collections, with their own albums, of Poland, Russia, Canada and The US - now I think I'll just find a bunch of new countries, concentrate on the classic older stamps and see where I end up, Scotts has lots of room and you can always insert spare pages. Happy collecting everyone - I guess we're all a bit crazy. I remember someone saying once that the only really sane person is the one who realizes how crazy he really is!!
I started playing with Portugal and colonies a few months back...some of the earlier stamps which catalog quite high in scott sell for a fraction of catalog on the internet...so i surf the net quite a bit to get a feel for prices. when i began collecting i just figured 50 percent of scott was the norm....but i no longer want to pay half of scott for the more expensive ones signed, Phil che cheapo !
I went on E-Bay a while ago and bid on and got a "P lot" - in other words a lot of countries starting with the letter P. I bid on it because my US album includes US Philippines and Puerto Rico. There was also a PEI stamp I needed as well. Well I'm afraid I got caught up on non-US Puerto Rico, non-US Philippines and Peru. So I've bought more Peru and am going to try to pick up more older Philippines and Puerto Rico. You never know what you'll get into - I think I'll try Guam and Cuba next!
Addition: Just got a large lot of Cuba to 1940 because most of the US Cuba stamps were there for my US Album. I also ended up with 90% of the rest of Cuba from 1855 to 1940. I guess I am now collecting older Cuba. I was checking prices for US Guam - for some reason they seem to be very expensive compared to the other US protectorates. Anyone know why - was it just that since the area is much smaller fewer stamps were printed?
