Here is a scan of a few cancels that could have been made by the same child's stamping set mentioned in "The Elephant" thread.
The first two stamps on the bottom row show more clearly what I mean by the watery look of the cancel and the build up of ink along the edge of the cancels.
Here is the back of the same stamps.
Inspired by the thread on the "Elephant Cancel" I want to share a few of my fake cancels. I bought these cancels knowing they were fake except for the 4th & 5th stamp on the first row, they were in mixed lots I acquired. I sent them in to The APS for certs knowing that they were probably fake and they were.
The first three have an unknown "Ship", too late for a use of that type of cancel.
The one cent War department is a genuine "specimen stamp with fake cancel added. "U.Stat"s is a fake made to look like a genuine cancel but "States" is spelled incorrectly, missing the "E".
The last two are fake New York Foreign Mail cancels. The direction of the spokes are turning the opposite way of the genuine.
The image of the reverse show the signs of ink bleed through that is not usually found on genuine cancels.
