Don't use a cutter, unless the stamps are imperf. Gently fold the perforations back and forth to loosen the paper. Then gently tear the stamps apart.
Also, do not stack the stamps on top of each other to try to separate several stamps at the same time. If the stamps are not exactly lined up over each other, and the stamps will shift during the separation process, the perfs will be torn off and the stamps ruined. I see this quite often from new issue and approval dealers.
Thanks Michael. No cutter then ;-)
Also, if the stamps have gum on them, make sure your hands/fingers are dry and clean, or wear gloves. Nothing worse than seeing fingerprints on the back of a stamp.
Thanks again, Michael.
Fold both ways, back and forward.
Use your thumbnail(back),Press down to create the crease through the perfs.
Place one hand FULLY on one side of the perfs, then gently using the other hand pull the other side DOWN AND AWAY.
But don't let your fingers touch the stamps or you will be

This isn't something I have ever had to do that much in the past, but any advice on splitting stamps without pulled perfs and so on? Is it best to fold and then gently pull apart or use a cutter of some sort?
