Can someone please help and shed some light on this one. I believe it's a German cargo or railroad stamp from sometime in the 40ties but I haven't found any information about it in SG or online and my language skill is too poor for the Michels... Appreciate any tips.

It's Dutch. The literal translation is R.V.O Fertiliser Distribution Third Fertilization Year.

RVO is a Government body, the Netherlands Enterprise Agency. I would imagine these are used for subsidised fertiliser supplies

re: Unidentified stamp from Germany (?)

You would not have found this one in Michel. It is not German and it is not even a postage stamp. It is a Dutch revenue stamp from the second world war. Or rather it is a distribution stamp, so that might not qualify as a revenue in the strict sense.
This stamp gave the right to buy 20 kilos fertilizer.
I do not know what the abbreviation RVO stands for.

Dave, the RVO you refer to is a modern organisation that was founded a few years ago. It is not the organisation responsible for these stamps. Distribution ended more than 60 years ago ????

When you keep searching, you will find what you're looking for: RVO stands for Rijksbureau voor de Voedselvoorziening in Oorlogstijd. In English that is something like National Agency for Foodsupply in Wartime.

See this website for all types http://members.casema.nl/leobakx/Textielzegels%20en%20Kunstmestdistributie.htm (in Dutch!)

Thanks both of you for the quick and informative response!! Much appreciated and I should have done more research about it beforehand. Found it in a German lot when sorting through so assumed it was from there. Very interesting and will keep read up on it. Thanks again!

re: Unidentified stamp from Germany (?)

Seems like these are similar in nature to the ration stamps that were issued by the United States (and other countries?) during World War II, where products needed for the war effort were in limited distribution to the general public.
