I have only just notice the 2d price of the stamp at the end the dot is alot bigger then the first one and it looks like a square There could be other differences on the stamp
Now I don't know what these are called but I always thought they were 2 birds sitting on the sleeve of the man who is pointing but on this stamp you can't make out the birds. I only just found that out
Rob and the other men who have been helping me with these stamps, this stamp was found in the same bundle of stamps with Koala up the tree. I'm hoping anyone can help me with this stamp, I didn't do anything to it so any information would be good.
Hi Pooh
The ink flaw on the outstretched arm may have been caused by the doctor blade removing any access ink. Many varieties with colour flaws are the result of smudges, these types of smudges are not constant printing flaws, and are merely known as freaks, otherwords, more of a curiosity than of monetary value.
As the stamp is used and off cover (the envelope) soaking in water can fade the colour in various sections of the stamp. The full stop under the “d” does seem slightly larger, I cannot explain this abnormality, but it has to be of significantly noticed before it can be of monetary value.
Now comes that line, mostly all lines of that significance is cause by a cracked plate, and all cracked plates have a rarity status of scarce – very rare. But then it could be paper separation or a fine tear, but this cannot be determined unless there is a black background (it highlights the ends of the stamp), and that you also post the reverse of the same black backing.
The cancellation of the stamp also has a significant impact on the value of the stamp, for instance a mint unhinged “Pantaloon” on the market will cost $1,300, whereas, if it were used, the same stamp will cost $85.
Also, some stamps can cost more than mint unhinged, but these are quite rare. Now if the line on the 2d stamp is a cracked plate, it will still cost quite a bit even if it were used.
The 2d sesquicentennial is known to be plagued with varieties, and only a very limited number of these varieties and retouched varieties have monetary value.
Repost both back and front of the stamp on a black background and I can work from there.
Rob
Rob, I haven't got black paper and we are over 4 hours away from major shops, I know it is not on black paper but I thought I will still send it any way.
This is the front of the stamp
Hi Pooh
Sorry I forgot where you are located. The image is now a good size, do you have anything that is not white, it doesn't have to be black, just anything dark, the white makes the bottom of the stamp invisible. If it's a paper separation or a tear it will show at the back, if it's a cracked plate or doctor blade variety it will show no damage to the paper.
I'm quite interested in that line.
Rob
What a type of material or what could you please give me some suggestion please????
Hello Rob, Thank goodness someone invented a tea towel Another one coming
Is this better??????
Hi Pooh
Perfect. I'll have a better look on both sides and let you know soon.
Rob
Hi pooh
It's a fine superficial tear as the line goes over the cancellation rather than the cancellation going over the line, the tear then travels up through the "H" of "Phillips" there seems to be no visible damage at the rear of the stamp.
Rob
Thankyou for this and the line on the front of his pants that dosen't go straight but crooked What could this be One day we might find out why one o is bigger then the other one
Hi Pooh
I should be able to answer those two questions in the next day or two.
Rob
Here is something that could be different. The man's pants legs at the back is missing colour and also his pants don't look right as there is a line not is not straight going down his pants Also the H of Phillips isn't there and there is a white line going through A of Anniversary Now is this before retouch???
