Now the ACSC does not list a smoking chimney variety for this value.
But it definitely has a smoking chimney, although not as prominent as the 2d value
Has anyone else seen this variety, or am I imagining it.
extreme right, same position as on the red value
It was in the collection I purchased, and it was by accident I noticed it.

How come this doesn't surprise me. You're not mistaking, that seems to look like a sky retouch (smoking Chimney). The 2d in used condition was auctioned off recently for $325, but I have never seen such a retouch on this particular 1/- stamp. The ACSC doesn't even mention the 2d sky retouch.
Though a higher denomination has a positive effect on the market value, it is not guaranteed that all high value denominations of the same issue would be relevant to the increase of value, it may have very little to no effect at all.
But it is a very interesting variety, I'm going to ask about this stamp and give you an experts opinion about it and if it has a significant monetary value sometime tomorrow.

I was told that the "smoking chimney" is only found on the 2d red (or carmine, being partially colour blind can be a bummer). What you have there is an ink blotch, that in itself is a variety.

I will keep looking, who knows what I have.
I have 37 large plastic containers, each with 17 compartments, all filled with Pre-decimal and decimal stamps.
Also I have twelve stock books filled with pre-decimal stamps.
Some are the family accumulation, others are what came with the collection I purchased.
Most are used, but some are better than others, not having hard fisted postal workers blackening them with postmarks.
I have just sorted them into types, George V heads, Roos, George Six, QEII decimal & pre- decimal. It is going to take years to sort them out.
Midas sounds too greedy, and we all know how poor Midas ended up
Actually Daffy Duck may be better, as there is a medical syndrome named after him. Its actually called the Daffy Duck Syndrome. If you remember, everytime Bugs Bunny found something valuable Daffy would appear shouting, "its mine, its mine:

That’s a lot of stamps, that’ll keep you busy for the next 40 years, I’ve had a few heavily fisted postal workers attacking my mail, and luckily I do not collect modern used stamps. I’m quite interested in what you may possess in the KGVI and QEII pre-decimal stamps and early decimal QEII stamps.
Midas, poor guy starved, Midas you ain’t, so I’ll refer your constant good fortune to Daffy Duck, though there is a real syndrome called the Donald Duck Syndrome.

That's true as I also found that quality when I became a member, not like some other club I know, when I questioned the person in charge why is he issuing certificates of authenticity when he is not a member of any affiliated organisation in Australia to do so, he went ballistic.
I pity those people who have those certificates, they are useless, and although he advertises that they can be used for insurance purposes, I can assure you those certificates cannot be used for insurance purposes.
This forum is a family friendly club and novices need not worry about being treated like criminals, from the novice to the expert, everyone is treated the same.

In my opinion ‘self-certs’ are an obvious conflict of interest; a buyer who supports a seller who ‘self-certs’ would have to be clueless. The whole point of a certification is to get an independent, unbiased opinion.
