Thank you very much! The links provided exactly what I need.

Had a chance to go through the links from the posting. Really liked the version of the album with all of the stamps which while not always perfect were beautifully put together in the album. It was amazing to see all of the early stamp issues all together in one compact space.
Early this morning I watched a Sandafayre auction online where two Lallier albums were auctioned, the first and second editions for the English language version of the albums. The second edition album which had a large number of stamps in the album sold for 8,750 pounds against a pre-sale estimate of 5,000 to 6,000 pounds and the first edition album with many fewer stamps in the album sold for 3,750 pounds against a pre-sale estimate of 800 to 1,200 pounds! It was very interesting listening to the bids being reported during the live auction with both in-person and internet bids being taken live.
Just saw another Lallier stamp album from 1866 come up on eBay today. It is a sixth edition French version album with no stamps included and has a very ornate leather cover but the pages look very worn. It is a fascinating historical item though.
UPDATE: Initially I thought the album included a brass clasp but found I had mixed it up in my memory with a Schaubek Volume II album for up to 1912 (I think) that I saw at a local stamp dealer on the same day. That album was being held for a local collector who collects currently only up to 1915 and buys quite a few older collections in albums from the dealer as they become available.
This prompted a memory - and after a brief search, I've found the 1881 SG Improved Postage Stamp Album I bought for a few pennies years ago. It's very battered - front and back covers off, but they're present. Lots of the 200 pages have been cut out - because the stamps that remain are glued to the page, so I guess a previous owner tried to float them off. The remaining stamps - many in poor condition, with tears and bits missing - are from a lot of countries inc German states, Norway, Dutch Indies, India, Cape of Good Hope, Brazil, Peru, Sandwich Isles. All firmly glued to the page.
At the back is a catalogue - no sale values, just a listing, then a foreign money table and some adverts for other SG publications.
PS - I tried to attach a scan, but it shows as too big - not sure how to reduce the size. I have managed this before, but can't remember how it's done!
Try doing a scan at 75dpi. Most of the time you can get larger items to post at that resolution.
It sounds like an interesting item!
Here's the title page of my poor old SG Improved.
More scans to follow, tomorrow.
Lovely! And thanks VERY much for sharing the images.
Hello again
Here are a couple of scans of stamps from the SG Improved. As mentioned, all are firmly glued to the page!
Saw another auction from Sandafayre today with two Lallier albums with stamps being offered. One was a 4th edition and the other a 2nd edition. I continue to be fascinated by them.
Saw another listing for a second edition English language Lallier stamp album last night on eBay. It has the brass cover latches and a green cover and no stamps.
UPDATE:
Just checked again on the Lallier item listing and found that someone purchased it for the $200 buy it now price.
I think what I would really like is something based on Clive's Album Easy printed on nice archival paper as a possible album for a classic stamps collection. Something with a tendency towards elegance more than completeness with leather binding, brass hardware, etc. and with spacing of stamps which would allow use of protective mounts and some era relevant details about the country, stamp issue, or other oddments would be nice as well. I fear my design efforts to date will never result in an aesthetically interesting album so I continue to search for something that others might create.
There were a group of exhibit frames at the GASS 2023 stamp show with multiple stamp albums and catalogs from the first years of stamp collecting. It was fascinating.
Just did another search on Lallier stamp albums and the most complete Lallier album I have ever seen is now listed on eBay. While many of the stamps are stuck down and/or damaged it is still a fascinating if expensive album. And a second album has now appeared as well that has selected stamps present although it shows quite a bit of wear.
STRIDER,
Thanks for showing us scans from your SG Improved album and adding the title page information. It appears to have remarkably clean pages. I really enjoy seeing the older stamp albums. I have one book which presents the Milestones of the Philatelic Literature of the 19th Century by Wolfgang Maasen and Vincent Schouberechts that was published by the Club de Monaco which discusses and shows pictures of many of the initial attempts to provide stamp albums and catalogs as well as collecting guides.
Does anyone have access to an original copy or scans of Justin Lallier's postage stamp album from the 1860's to early 1870's?
