Congratulations Phil
Duly noted by we, the 'rabble'!
Definitely an obscure country for most of us. I found that somehow I have managed to accumulate six including one that Antonius Ra is missing on his web page which is a 130r overprint Scott # 29. Based on his normal completion rate, I suspect he may just need to update his web page as I have only ever found one stamp in my collection before that he didn't have pictured and during a later review it had appeared. His collection and putting it on the web has definitely been a tremendous service to the community.
Just to put the country Ponta del Gada's issues in perspective, I have bought six different International Part I albums plus two Minkus Supreme Global albums while building my collection and only six stamps for Ponta del Gada have been added. Only two albums actually had a stamp from Ponta del Gada, with one album having five of the six stamps that I now have.
I think a celebration of doubling is quite appropriate and commendable!
I agree, with the other Portugese colonies you usually find a smattering of unused stamps in a remainder album. One of the guys in our club found about 30 years of journals from the Portugese study group and no one seemed interested so i took them. I always loved to read history and what i have learned about African history from these magazines is amazing. the Portugese were right there in the middle of things during the Boer war and world War 1.
I didn't realize how fortunate I had been back in the 1980s! I bought two collections of Portuguese colonies, mostly Africa and Azores. Together, those collections produced a nearly complete collection of both mint and used.
Several years later, I was surprised when I listed the Ponta delGada Scott #13 through #34 mint and used in 44 lots on September 25, 2009, at BidStart. One lot was purchased that day. Four days later, a single buyer purchased the other 43 lots.
It's been a decade and I kind of forgot about needing to list the #1 through #10 stamps. Thanks, Phil, for the reminder!
We can only hope that an opportunity like that shows up on an area we are currently working in. I just made a purchase today from an internet dealer in Ottawa..i bought it mainly because it contains Portugal 490-95 with the Revalidado overprint.

And i just doubled my collection to a healthy 4 going through my endless tubs and computer boxes !
Here is a decade-old composite of the Ponta Delgada I had from the 1897-1905 King Carlos set. These came from two different Portuguese colonies collections I purchased in the 1980s.
WOW! Beautiful collection.
