re: Part of my Italian East African Zoo

To clear any confusion, I would like to point out that these stamps are from Somalia and Eritrea. Italian East Africa did not exist when these stamps were in service. The first stamps of this type were issued by Somalia in 1903. The ones that are overprinted Eritrea were issued in 1922. Italian East Africa was not formed until 1936 at which time Somalia and Eritrea were incorporated into it.

Very interesting stamps! I have been focusing on this part of the world lately & just ordered the SG East Africa catalogue to help clarify recent purchases of Sudan, British Somaliland and Egypt, etc. The history of Africa is fascinating and sobering,

Antonius, thanks for the clarification. Good stuff.

Phil, hope the elephants and lions enjoyed the walk around Lake Minnewaska. Cheers!

Thanks, i was not thinking of the colony Italian East Africa when i posted...some of us refer the former Italian colonies in the generic way...all Italian East Africa.
