That's a beautiful cover.
a couple of years ago i believe all 3 replicas of his boats visited Kingston N.Y., i was really surprised that boats that small could cross an ocean. I believe that only Columbus could sleep below deck..the poor crew had to sleep on deck regardless of the weather. Nice original cover by the way !
I have the Italy,Portugal and Spain sheets...i don't think i purchased the U.S. set.
Duh, Columbus 1992...i get it now, better late than never is my motto !
Wanna go to the Expo? I just happen to have a ticket!
I couldn't resist buying this a few years back. It sits in my glass top coffee table with a bunch of other memorabilia.
Remember when I said I accidentally started collecting Worlds Fair?
I bought these this past week. I haven't received them yet so these are the seller's photos from the 'bay. I've bid on these in the past but hadn't been successful. This seller had a mess of them so I bid low on them all and managed to win 4 of them. These will go in my USA album with my Columbian stamps and covers.
The reverse side of all of these are the same. Interesting that they were printed on postal cards! This was the "address side only" era, so the designs allowed for messages on the picture side.
Tom, i have this...but you need both halves to make it $$$$ !
Here are a few to go with yours, BF;
Gotta love all the material that comes out of hiding when there’s a topic!i knew there were a handful of different ticket styles, and a load of different postcards, but I never saw the child’s ticket before!
I’m sure someone here knows the details of how many ticket and postcard designs were made.
Phil...the child's ticket is a neat item. I've never seen one. I've got a couple of the, I guess, grown up tickets. Is that a scarce item?
Ernie, I was going to ask Phil if he personally used that ticket as a child!
No, i did not go to the expo..i was too cheap. Ernie, we can check on eBay and see what the tickets are going for. i thought i had one of the Washington tickets and i found the childs instead...i will keep searching.
Ernie i looked at eBay...one like mine they are asking 35 dollars, one with the ticket stub they are asking $750.00
$750 with the stub!! Wow. I guess that means the ticket was unused. Mom and dad left the screamin', cryin' brat at grandma's. ???? That's a great item Phil
Thanks Ernie, hope you are not in danger with the hurricane.
Hey Phil. Thank you. Looks like were safe here in Jacksonville but my daughter in Tallahassee had to evacuate. They shut down Florida state for a week. She waited until the last minute and couldn't find gasoline anywhere in town. A friend drove some down from Alabama. She's safe here with us now. ALL of these storms are dangerous.
Here's a cover I created for myself when I was in Columbus Ohio, in 1992:
At the time, I worked at New Bolton Center.
While I was in Columbus, I visited the Santa Maria replica, anchored in the Scioto River.
Who else has an item to share?
-Paul
