Stampwrangler , i purchased over a hundred postcards mailed to a Gordon Wiliams of Albany New York around 1931. He must have belonged to a correspondence club as the cards were not from every country in the world but from a lot from French Africa,Morocco, Japan and Thailand. I have sold the Thailand cards for as much as $99.99 on ebay...the Africa and Moroccos i get around 3 dollars apiece for.
Incredible site! And an awe inspiring goal. Glad to see he is documenting it through the web site and the post cards so that others might share at least vicariously in the experience.
philb, that is a fun postcard collection you purchased. Isn't it interesting what becomes "collectible" a few decades into the future? Seriously, I have thrown out so much stuff that later becomes "collectible" -- but who can hang on to everything, just to wait and find out? I guess that's why rented storage units are so successful.
jbaxter, I'm glad you enjoyed the site. I thought it was fascinating, and I'm just a little jealous
Stampwrangler, Ooooh i hate to let go of the tubs and boxes the room is overflowing with, i guess you just have to let go of how you acquired much of the stuff ...be practical instead of sentimental. But i fear the room would only fill up again.
This fellow is well on the way to sending himself a postcard from every country in the world. Not just having postcards sent to him, but traveling there and sending them himself. Some of the post offices he has visited are pretty fascinating, and one at least I'll bet has never been seen by another tourist - I wish I could remember which one, but I got a bit lost in surfing his site. Anyway I thought the whole thing was pretty cool!
