jerry,
you are describing USED stamps. In some cases, used is more valuable than unused, especially if the cancel is contemporaneous with the stamp. The 22c Caruso, by itself, has little or no value. I don't have my Scott catalogue handy, but I figure it's VALUED at 25c, which is the minimum catalogue value for any stamp, even the most common.
If you're planning to sell, based solely on the very little you've already told us, I would scan a representative sample of the 1000s of stamps and post it in auction here. It's free to list.
I wouldn't expect too much for this entire lot, but some of our members like to hunt for treasure.
anyway, if you're not planning to collect, but only to sell, do it in one big lot and see what happens.
if you're planning to collect, it's nice to start with some 20th century US commemoratives.
hope this helps
David
Hi, Here is a few ways some collect used stamps. this known as shocked on the nose.
This is different slogans.
This is Different color ink
That's is just a few
If a stamp has cancellation marks and is not gummed for being used but is in very good condition what would its pricing classification be. I received a lot of 1000 stamps a couple of years ago that I am just getting to look at and the are all cancelled and un gummed but in excellent condition but do not know if they have watermarks on the back of them. Case in point is that I have an Enrico Caruso 22 cent stamp and am trying to figure out if it is a least its face value
