I'd be interested in hearing comments concerning this. I completed the Ebay survey earlier today and was going to reread it just now, but the details have been removed from my computer. Sounds cumbersome, that's why I wanted to reread it. As I understood it - selected Sellers now and the rest a year out. Thank you.

re: Ebay Eliminating PayPal for Selected Sellers Sept. 1.

Is Ebay totally severing their sales function from Paypal? Or, will it still be an option and, will sellers be allowed to specify Paypal only?

Let me guess; Ebay will soon if not already introduce their very own payment platform.

eBay used to own PayPal but a while back they split and became separate companies.

Here's the details. Paypal will be replaced over time by 'Adyen' a Netherlands based payer platform currently used by Netflix. Ebay will still allow PP usage by sellers for awhile, perhaps a few years.

I sure would like to reread what I received from eBay Expression yesterday, but when I try to bring up the details I get "Your response to the survey has already been received. Thank you."

Snick1946 hit the nail on the head when he said "Ebay will introduce their very own payment platform."

I wonder when the Ebay Gods will feel is the right time to announce this to the general public, especially their sellers? I don't see that any actual disclosure of this has been made, right now it's leaks and hints.

This discussion seems to be the only one taking place right now anywhere on the net. Probably I'm wrong but they seem to be dribbling this out.

I may be wrong but I believe that it was released to the sellers in one of their emails some time ago - you know, the ones you read until your eyes gloss over.

I read about it some time ago in Ina Steiner's EcommerceBytes newsletter. It is published several times a week and is free. It covers pretty much all business aspects of Ebay, Amazon, Easy, etc. and is a quick read unless you get wrapped up in the comments on each subject.

"I may be wrong but I believe that it was released to the sellers in one of their emails some time ago..."

Quoted for truth. I was a bit baffled by this thread, this news was originally discussed back in 2015. Here is a short timeline which may clarify things a bit.

In 2014 Carl Icahn (very large shareholder) pushed hard to break up eBay and PayPal because it made the most financial sense.

In mid-2015 they became two separate corporations. Under the arrangement, PayPal was guaranteed a reliable source of revenue from eBay for five years. (But interestingly PayPal was allowed to immediately partner with competing retailers and other financial firms.) eBay made it clear that they would be partnering with other firms moving forward.

In Jan of this year, eBay announced they would be partnering with Adyen but would also maintain its relationship with PayPal (as per the original agreement). Wall Street responded with a large sell off of PayPal stock and it plummeted 10 percent in value.

I know that everyone loves to hate on eBay but my opinion is that competition is good; having Adyen and PayPal competing with each other should bring benefits to consumers.

ebay had their own service initially (BillPay?)

Is Ayden a direct debit type card? I checked the fees and it looks like 25 cents per transaction for ACH method.

eBay will have a significant discount built-in with the deal they hammer out with Ayden. I assume it would be difficult to raise the current fee structure by much without causing a lot of whining and bad publicity. Perhaps an increase after a year or two with the new payment provider? Hopefully they will keep both and allow them to compete with each other.

Is Ayden's setup similar in the sense you send money to them to use for payments (along with credit card options) or does it just pull out of your bank account?
