Hi all,

I am really enjoying using "AlbumEasy" to make my first stamp page(s).

Right now I am devoting the first album that I am creating to a newly forming "Lighthouse collection" that I am acquiring.

Taking is slow, enjoying all aspects of it.

That software is super cool! Once you read through help files, I'm convinced it can do just about anything.

Johnny:

Post a page or two so we can see what you're up to.

It might give some of us (knuckleheads like me) an idea - or it might get you some valuable feedback from many of our highly knowledgeable members!

Good luck!

P.S. You should also look at the Steiner Pages. They are comprehensive and well-coordinated with the Scotts catalogues. Plus you can find software to convert the PDF files to PPT to allow more customization. The only drawback is that their formatting of the stamp placeholders is awkward and requires some revisions to make them more amenable to changes in the text.

Cheers, Dave.

re: Just made my first album page!

Hi Dave,

I'm not familiar with the Steiner pages, but I'd love to look at them!

I have access to a lot of software and can convert and edit just about anything, so that might be something that I can convert to my needs.

Disclaimer: my pages are VERY rookie-ish!

But I have no problem sharing them, and I'd love some positive feedback and ideas.

Thanks!

re: Just made my first album page!

The base of my world collect are Scott Specialty page, of which I have most. They have a space for every major number that Scott lists in their catalog. The down side is that they are quite expensive and most world collectors pressed to afford. Buying used ones with lots of stamp has been the only way that I have been able to afford the.
Steiner pages has many advantages over most other options. They are easy to afford and you can do them at home whenever you need. I use Steiner pages for a couple different
purposes. 1. Making complete pages for smaller countries, colonies etc. 2 Many first issues from countries had many sub-types and Scott only shows the major one. I use Steiner pages for many countries to show different variants. 3. I also use them for extending my end dates for countries.

The Steiner pages look very much like the page you made up.

Below I'm showing some different pages and variants. The pages are from Germany.
The first page is the first page for Germany and shows the first sets for the country.

The second page shows a modified Steiner page. Many spaces have been added by cutting and pasting to allow for many color variants. The original Steiner page would have shown maybe only two variants and would have been combined with another set on the page. It is printed on a Scott Specialty page so that it fits nicely in the album.

The third page is a Steiner page printed on a Scott Specialty page It has not received any
modifications.

The fourth page is a Steiner page printed on 8 X 11-1/2, 67Lb Exact Vellum Bristol (available at Office Depot and other similar stores..
It has the default Steiner border. This is the easiest way to go as you can make them at home with little cost. Steiner shows the denomination in the space but unfortunately not the Scott number which is what I dislike most. Of course this is the same problem you will have any pages other the Scott. Most people will pencil in the numbers by hand in pencil.
The wording on the Steiner pages are the fault of Steiner but my printer was not set up correctly.

re: Just made my first album page!

It is easy to add Scott numbers to Steiner's album pages.

When creating pages you should try to look at various design aspects. You can create several versions but you will need to test with pages that have content.

1. Border - none, single line, double line, complex
2. How much information you want such as grouping, subject if they vary in a series, variety details (perfs, design type).

This is from pages I made for my US Mystic album. Note that Mystic puts Scott numbers inside text box but visible when stamp is mounted so I followed that.

Hi Guys!

Great examples.

I'm using some of these ideas for my pages as well!

re: Just made my first album page!

One can understand the enthusiasm for the Steiner pages, he offers a great service at a very reasonable price.

But what I can't understand, is why the minute someone mentions custom album pages, the same people jump in over and over, literally shutting any conversation down by flooding the thread with scans of Steiner pages without giving any consideration as to why someone might want to create their own.

As convenient as the Steiner pages are, they are most definitely not for everyone:

* Based on Scott - as a mainly Commonwealth collector I and hundreds of thousands of like minded collectors actually prefer Gibbons whereas many Europeans prefer Michel or Yvert catalogues.
* Thematics - The OP specifically stated that he is creating pages for a Lighthouse collection, to the best of my knowledge Steiner does not offer thematic support.
* Specialisation - many collectors specialise in stamps with far more varieties than supported by Steiner.
* Aesthetics - not everyone likes the Steiner look.
* Creativity - some people actually enjoy creating albums as an end to itself.
* And most importantly, not everyone likes the cookie cutter approach. To quote Bobstamp in another thread "I've always tried to make album pages fit my collection, rather than the other way around".

I think it is perfectly acceptable, and actually helpful as Dave (lemaven) has done to suggest the Steiner pages as alternative, but to completely flood almost every single thread on multiple forums is not.
I understand your enthusiasm, but please give a little consideration to those that may think differently from yourselves.

re: Just made my first album page!

Hi all,

I have been having great results with AlbumEasy (well, let's say GREAT to me!!!).

Now that I have started to learn its nuances, I'm thinking that it is actually pretty easy to use.

It helped to download a lot of examples and look the over.

Thanks to all for your help!

re: Just made my first album page!

Clive, I was attempting to answer JR's question which was the point of this thread. He specifically asked about seeing some Steiner pages, which I showed with some comments. Johnny also happens to live in the United States. If he lived elsewhere I would probably not reccomend Scott catalogs for him or anyone else. Probably 95% of all dealers and auctions in the U.S.exclusively use Scott catalogs because their numbering system is the norm. Specialized collectors will often use several different catalogs.

It took me quite a bit of time to decide if I should way-in on this thread. I finally did
and turns out I made the wrong decision. I'll try and contain myself next time so as not to upset anyone.

re: Just made my first album page!

Antonius,
You are correct, the OP did ask to see Steiner pages, I should think before shooting from the hip, I am sorry if I offended.

I just get a little frustrated sometimes as so often the minute someone asks about making custom pages they are immediately bombarded by the Steiner advocates irrespective of whether the Steiner pages meet the enquirer's needs or not.

Ironically this mostly occurs on other forums not StampoRama. So not only did I choose to shoot my mouth of unnecessarily, I also chose the wrong forum to do so.

re: Just made my first album page!

I am an advocate of Steiner pages. Given that new people come to the forums you will often see the same questions and answers so can get repetitive as I am not one who tells new people to use the search. The responses come from people who happen to see the post and every forum has a personality of those that frequent and those that want to post.

Despite the fact Steiner pages and Album Easy along with many products are mentioned on a regular basis, it is interesting how some still are not aware of either. They may not visit often or very selective of what they view.
