Collecting King George VI from all countries, and King Edward VII and King George V from the West Indies.

Hi. I am a full time collector and a part time dealer.
I collect British Colonies. Primarily King George VI from all countries, but also King Edward VII and King George V from the West Indies. Currently I am an APS member and the moderator of the King George VI Group site on Yahoo.com.
I hope we can discuss some of the stamps I collect on this site.

Welcome! Glad to have you join the club. I see you have a post office box in Lisle, Illinois. I spent many weeks of my life, years ago, in training at the Unisys Training Center in Lisle.

Small world isn't it Linus. My grandparents lived in an apartment on Main Street in Lisle back in the 1930's. It was really a one horse town back then. Much different now with technical training centers and corporate offices by the tollway.

I can remember walking around the Main Street area of Lisle and thinking that this was originally just a little town that was swallowed up by the Chicago suburbs. I've been there!

I have been filling spaces in a pair of old Gibbons New Imperial albums, the whole empire to 1936. I know I won't get even a third of it filled but it's fun. Once in awhile I get a page filled.

I've been a customer of the OP in the past. Nice to see him on here.

Welcome to another collector of British Colonies. I collect a good deal of colonial material, primarily Bermuda and Falklands. I am interested in the postal history of the colonies with a focus on pacquet boat and other shipping related items.

Hi David.

I collect Bermuda from King Edward thru King George VI. I try to sort them by printings. I have scanned some of them and you will find them on my website - take the link to see the web pages to find them.

I also do the Falkland Islands, but only King George VI. I have a web page explaining how to identify the printings if you are interested, but it really only works with unused stamps because the paper and gum are a huge indicator for these stamps.

Just wondering, does anyone here use Steiner pages for their King George VI collection? I guess it would be kind of tedious to compile all the files for each country and print out the pages one needed based on the time he ruled.

I do exactly that plus I have expanded to QEII up to 1960 or so. The QEII pictorials are nice too. I pick up country collections so usually get KV to QEII so do them all as I get. I do not like all the souvenir sheets from the 70s and later.

I do not get into all the varieties like SG but Steiner does provide pages for minors and I will create own when needed.

re: New Member - Collecting British Colonies

I make my own KGVI pages because no one makes one that works for me. I used to draw it out on thick white construction paper with mounts to hold the stamps for the catalog listings. But then I started trying to find the various printings and that was too hard to modify. So now I use Vario pages and put the information in an Excel spreadsheet about each printing. Then I print the page and cut out the strips for each stamp. The strip gets put in the Vario page along with the stamp. This is easily the most expensive way to do this, but it is really convenient, and as I learn something new about the stamp, I just have to make new Excel printouts.

Here is an example showing the two pound values from my Jamaica collection.

Beautiful thanks for showing them...some good soul sent me these half a lifetime ago and they sat in a stockbook until this evening. I am partial to used stamps of Edward VII.Image Not Found

The 2/6 greyish-blue paper makes me think it is an early printing. Is the gum kind of yellowish and off-color on the back? Nice marginal copies on the 5/ and Pound values.
