Someone just sent several of these to me. What are they? Can I just stick them on an envelope like a Forever stamp? Thank you.

Spell Check doesn't like the word "MACHINEABLE".

This $.71 non-denominated stamp pays the current 50 cent one ounce first class rate as well as the 21 cent non-machineable surcharge.

And fortunately, the non-machineable surcharge and the 2nd ounce for 1st class are both the same rate, so you can also use these stamps to pay a regular 2-ounce letter (that's machineable, i.e, bends normally).

re: 2016 USA "NON MACHINEABLE SURCHARGE" stamp picturing Blue Butterfly.

I always thought of machining as something one does with a lathe or milling machine, which would lead one to believe that non-machinable would apply to material which is beyond the capability of the machine.
So Non-Machineable (notice the extra 'e') strikes me as a rather contrived term for mail that cannot be sorted automatically.

Among the free albums one can download from http://www.thestampweb.com/albums.html (near the bottom of the page), is a USA Non-Machineable album albeit actually only a single page, it does contain colour images of the other US Non-Machineable surcharge stamps for those who are interested.
