@ friends: Thank you for your kind words
@ Brian: Thank you for sharing Vietnam's stamps
To continue the theme of scenery:
Loved the stamp pictures.
I have visited Vietnam twice (both times last year) and loved it there. On my last trip I picked up some stamps. They are a great souvenir.
Just out of curiosity, and because it is for my long term project, do you know how many stamps were published in Vietnam in 1970?
Which Vietnam, North or South? In 1970, Vietnam was divided into the Republic of South Vietnam (South Vietnam) and the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (North Vietnam).
In 1970, South Vietnam issued 21 different, regular postage stamps, assuming that my counting in the Scott catalogue is correct. No other types of postage stamps were issued in that year.
North Vietnam issued 52 different regular postage stamps in the same year, but no other types of stamps.
Not until July 2, 1976, following the Paris Peace Accords (officially the "Agreement on Ending the War and Restoring Peace in Vietnam")l was Vietnam officially reunified and renamed the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Between then and now, Vietnam has issued at least 3,000 different regular postage stamps and at 20 military stamps. I can't be more specific than that because my catalogue only goes up to 2006. Given the country's postal profligacy, I suppose that, easily, there could be another thousands Vietnam stamps available.
