One of the things that the late Bill Weiss and I often discussed was the need to assist hobbyists make better informed buying decisions. While this has always been important, it has taken on even more consequence in the internet age.

Just before he passed, Bill was working on an article which compiled information on all the US altered, faked, and counterfeit stamps that had crossed his desk over the years. He was just finishing the article when his cancer interceded. I had been helping where I could and have now put finishing touches (formatting, spelling/grammar corrections, layout) on it. It is now published here

Bill Weiss made his expertise available at minimal cert prices. Does anyone know who might be following his lead? Generally certs are pricey to get.
Thanks,
Dan C.

I used the APS ID service for a Washington-Franklin stamp and APS was no help at all. I have better luck on another forum for helpful information. They can at least say some perfs look suspicious, etc.

The APS Quick ID service is available to non-members at increased cost -- APS makes clear that the service does not provide an official opinion of authenticity.
