Covers with maps! Yeah!
I am off today for Presidents Day. My wife had to work so I am home alone and apt to get into trouble. So I'm trying to be good, which left me to reflect and view my George Washington Bicentennial collection. The GWB was in 1932 and was celebrated all year long. There was a set of commemorative stamps from 1/2 cent all the way up to ten cent and postal stationary too. The new Washington quarter, that we use to this day, debuted. And concerns all across the country commemorated events via special covers all year long. I've been collecting these since I was a lad, so I do have over 100 different event covers. At one point I thought I had them all, but through the magic of eBay, I'm still finding covers today. So I thought I'd share some of my covers!
This one came to me all the way from Canada via our very own Davey! This is a Washington's Birthday cover (not a FDC, the stamps were issued on January 1st). It's canceled at Grand Central Station in New York City. A very pretty cover!
George's birthday from Philadelphia
And from Washington Crossing, PA. I also have a dozen or so birthday cancels from towns across America named Washington. I bought some of them from Roy.
And here's a few random covers from the year long celebration.
