Since the stamps on each approval book page are listed numerically starting at 1, I don't see how you could use a catalog number as the identifier for the stamp position on a page. Well, I can see how it could be done, but it would most likely confuse buyers, and could cause you problems when they get their stamps and tell you that they didn't buy one or more.
If there is room on the page to write the catalog numbers for each stamp, why not write the stamp's position number on the approval page there as well?
In retail, taking "short cuts" usually brings bad results.
Michael; upon reflection, I see your point. not practical as is. As noted by you and others it's a darn lot of work. I mainly quit listing single stamps in approvals because of that.
Carl, there are a few sellers in the approvals who use album pages with stamps mounted on them. I think that they break down collections so that they can save time by using the album page rather than removing the stamps from the album page and then creating a separate approval book page. Many of their album pages are not full of stamps. However, the sellers add a page position number (from 1 to X) above or below the stamp. You don't have to use a graphic editing program to do that. Like I said, if there's enough room on the page near the stamps, simply write in the stamp position number, but do it dark enough and in an orderly manner so buyers don't get confused.
I have some album pages that I want to list in approvals w/ stamps w/ Scott #s under them. Can I use them as the identifying numbers for the approvals instead of listing separate #'s as 1,2,3, etc.?
re: Catalog #s as identifying #s.
