I've been sorting through a small collection of post-war Hitler obliterations, and have managed to locate all but this one. Can anyone help with a place-name?

How about post- WW II when towns obliterated Hitler heads throughout Germany and Austria to demonstrate that they knew nothing about what the Nazi's had been doing. Perhaps it was the lack of stamps till the allies got things organized.

Thanks for that, phos45 - I'm leaning towards the centre one of your three, Mulsen St Jacob, and an image on ebay seems to confirm it. (A set of 25 went for around £160, though how you guarantee authenticity with these I do not know.)

re: Germany 1945 Obliteration Locals - Can you identify this one?

I believe that Michel states that mint never hinged, or mint copies of the obliterated Hitler heads will never be expertized -- buyer beware.

Lately on eBay I have been seeing all sorts (literally dozens of different overprints) of Hitler heads with overprints such as the SS symbol, Waffen SS, eagle and swastika and various locations in Greece, etc. supposedly made during the war--there is no reference to this type of overprint in Michel that I have seen. Additionally, I had never seen these types of overprints offered at stamp shows before there was an internet.

One ebay seller states these are private overprints. I emailed him if he thought these private overprints were made after WWII? He said yes. Not in his listing though.

I have a few random examples (one each from Rumburk and Netschkau, two from Schwarzenburg, three from Meissen), and longer runs from Kreis Glauchau and Czechoslovakia (CSR double circles), Domazlice (SV Ceskoslovensko 1945) and Ricany (lion crest); and other overprinted Hitler heads from Austria and Yugoslavia which are recognised in the catalogues.

Obliterations do not come cheap, and as Bruce says above cannot be properly expertised; for those reasons they aren't high up on my purchasing priorities, even though they do illustrate an interesting facet of post-war propaganda.

I have to admit upfront that I haven't deeply researched the royalty issue for Hitler's image on stamps so that he was enriched from 1937 onward by his face on stamps. I seem to recall though that this was not his idea. I think credit goes to another Third Reich official who suggested the idea to Hitler. I wonder if a stamp had to be sold first before a royalty was credited to Hitler by his government?
What did Hitler do with all that money? He didn't seem to live a typical lavish dictator lifestyle.
Regarding Hitler being a shrewd author, I remember reading in a Third Reich cultural history book that most Germans couldn't get past the early pages of his book because it was so boring. I succumbed to the same thing after an attempt to read the thing. I opted for reading passages thought to be revealing about Hitler and his worldview. Disturbing to say the least.
The marketing ploy to insure that all married couples were given a copy of Mein Kampf certainly brought in the royalty Marks and the nature of the threat of not being a loyal German or good Nazi also fueled sales but I wonder if the marriage book obligation was also another Nazi's idea?

Indubitably.
Before they were firmly in power, as a minority Party,
they could hardly require every married couple
to receive a copy.
Then once they were finally able to impose
their ideas on everyone,
...... well, ..... by then,
I doubt there were many independents
who would dare propose anything new,
without the Nazi party's blessing.

We Americans may not understand that
under Hiter's regime,
everyone had to be an active party supporter.
Their homes, jobs, and safety
depended on what we might call
the precinct captain's approval.

Here we are still free to support
an Obama or a Trump, or not, quite openly,
That freedom is a core principle of our government.
Under Nazi rule the compulsion to refuse to openly display
one's physical support extended through the family
down to the youngest school children.
I imagine that the couple who refused
to accept the dear leader's tome,
or heaven forfend, be seen tossing the copy
into the handiest dustbin while leaving
the church or courthouse
would bring down serious consequences.
