Its a fantastic trip for a stamp collector....check out the bargain section where members donate albums etc;.
This looks like a great trip idea for me and my wife!
We will definitely have to check into this - thanks for posting the links, Vince.
I visited APS a few weeks ago and had a great time. Went to the headquarters building on two different days. Purchased some stamps and an older set of Scott catalogs in the "gift shop" just off the library. Next day I went to the sales division and purchased a bunch of stamps from the circuit books.
Lots of fun
Tis, a mere 300 miles from my front door !
Phil, got you beat, it is only 200 miles from my front door
Jopie and i went to the APS Hq. twice when it was in State College and it seemed adequate to me..what do i know ? Then with i am sure membership already in decline the wise heads in charge with ideas of grandeur decided on the match factory. From pictures in the APS magazine the place looks classy now..i was shocked when i pulled in to the parking lot on my visit and saw a main building with no roof...a laborer was mixing cement in a wheelbarrel and i asked him where the office was but he did not have a clue..so i drove around a bit further and found a small parking lot and the front door. So aside from the initial shock..the APS folks were very friendly as usual and we had a fine time. That was about 8 or 10 years ago...i think i am up for a roadtrip in 2018 !
163 miles door to door for me! Vince had to pass by me to get there!
Only 526 miles for me!
2550 miles for me (37 hours, according to Google maps), so I don't get to swing by there too much. ... I do wish they would offer a sale option for the donated philatelic literature to long-distance members.
610 km (approx 360 miles) with one national boundary to cross. Closest I've come is shopping in Grove City or on a school bus through Wilkes-Barre (although a surprisingly fun weekend in Pittsburgh - a thoroughly underrated city - was almost as close). Will have to wait a few years (at least) to get down there, but it is on my list. I hope there's something there that'll occupy my wife long enough ...
I was also there on Friday. I was in the Gift Shop most of the day. Got a bunch of interesting covers. One was mailed by Stephen Rich who was the 1st President of my stamp club, The West Essex Philatelic Society among others.

Its a small world we travel in !
I'm spending a few days in Bellefonte, PA, home of the APS. My wife and I make a few trips to this area every year just get away from the city. This time of year we are here for http://www.bellefontevictorianchristmas.com/ and we always stay here

I make time to visit APS and Philatelic Library when ever I am in the area. I spent some time just browsing the library and their sales division in the library and made some copies of articles I wanted for my research on US markings. Found a few new books for my personal library and some items for my collection. The staff are a great asset to the APS, very helpful. I also spent some time just looking through their reference collection of early US. I had the opportunity to look at their reference collection of fake stamps, perforations and cancels on early US. When I return home I will post some scans of the new books and stamps I picked up.
