Lars, you can do a couple of things.
You can create a new thread (maybe they'll reply to this one so you won't have to create a new thread) asking people what topics they collect. Do not discuss buying, selling or trading in this thread. You need to go to the classifieds for that.
If you want to trade, create a classified ad in the LET'S TRADE STAMPS classified. If you are looking to buy, create a classified ad in the STAMPS I WANT TO BUY classified.
Remember, do not conduct trades or transactions in the discussion boards or the classified ads. All transactions need to be through private messages.
You can search the members directory. I just went and searched "turtle " under interests and found two people who collect turtles as a topical.
Is there a single location where we can see what other topics are being actively collected by SOR members? I have a Mermaid topical collection and I end up buying multiples to get just one stamp. Trying to sell the short set isn't promising, but I saw a new-comer post that he had a "tall ships" topical collection. Some of my left-overs feature tall ships! If I knew all of the topics being actively collected by SOR members, it might be easier to arrange swaps or put together sales items that meet real needs.
Just a thought.
Lars
