Just got this picture in an enquiry about selling a collection of "millions of stamps from everywhere in the world".

You see what I see? Isn't this business fun?

I think the weirdest thing is that the beaver doesn't look 3D at all. Maybe if I can find my glasses from last time I went to one of those movies...

So what is the main clue to the true origin? Its size?

Not in this case. You can't tell the size from a picture. Seeing the stamp in person, you would detect a difference in the paper and printing. There may be a difference in size, I will have to check. In fact I never even thought of doing that. It will be interesting.

In this case, the first clue was the super-wide margins. Although barely possible, it is enough for a warning flag, especially when the rest of the pictures of the "collection" were stamps that would not sell in Stamporama Approvals even if priced at 1c each.

The real clue (as timbres pointed out) was the cancel - the wavy line machine cancel, and worse, the slogan cancel with the word "Post" in 1980s computer style font.

Here are a couple of exceptional examples from a recent auction catalogue:

I show the pair so you can see the full size of the available margins.
