I purchased this item not knowing about the letter or story behind it. I can find no other reference to it anywhere. Has anyone else seen this?

I do have this catalog, but there is no mention of it. I have a little problem with the story because it mentions that the handstamp was broken and unavailable. To my knowledge, there was no 35 sen handstamp, only 50 sen and 85 sen. Can anyone shed some light here?
