Did you inherit all these stamps you are posting?
Hi! I would say yes, I inherited most or some of the collection at first, and then beginning as a child kept adding to that collection for years to come. Always loved them but was never an expert..have learned a lot past year or two but not nearly as all of you I'm sure.
Anglophile,
Actually, i have. I have been self searching my stamps for two years. I am now down to a select 20+ that i am stumped on. Therefore i finally joined the forum. All my final selection has very valid questions. I am not just picking all my stamps wasting my time posting ones that are already in my catelogs obviously. Before you assume these things, View the items i have been posting before you make any judgement, because i assure you, these final items were researched endlessly by me, which led me to finally join this forum in search of some final relief..because frankly, i dont have the time to place anymore effort on them at this point, and i think it is ok to finally ask for some help. Thank you for your concern though.
Btw..all the items i have posted were sent to a very well known expertising firm that sent them back as "no opinion", it states that in my first posting of the Parma 80..if you as well would of done some research...they were stumped as well..so yes, at this point, i needed help. This has been an agonizing nail-biting endless search, im a research phanatic, u have no idea..trust me..i spoke to numerous experts, including forgery experts as in Evert Klaseboer..but i do understand your point, however, your idea of this was very wrongly judged..and i suppose I initially was offended slightly but only because of my extreme efforts before i even attempted to contact this forum..bit no worries, easy mistake as im sure a lot of newcomers do that...
Except for the cinderellas you have shown the two stamps of Parma and this French airmail are rare stamps that no one frequenting this board are likely to have or be able to offer much help with, especially the Parma 80 centesimi. Sending them to expertizers such as the APS or other U.S. based firms are not likely to take on the job.
As for an expertizer who is likely to give you a certification on these you will need to go to a European firm. Sergio Sismondo as has been mentioned is probably your best bet on the Parma. They are also experts in French philately and I would not hesitate sending the French C3 to them as well. I've compared your C3 with another copy and the overprint appears to be correct as far as comparing two scans can be. If as you say the collection has been in your family for over a hundred years then you might expect to find some rare items if your family was well off and was serious about collecting. These stamp were rare from the day they were issued so someone had to be very serious in obtaining them.
Best of luck!
thanks Mitch for the great perspective you provide and suggestions you offer. Great post
One thing to remember when going through collections that are that old is that many of the "rare" stamps could very well be the reprints and forgeries that were made for the packet trade back then.
I would add that 'album weeds' are just like weeds in the yard; there are rarely only a few. If the original collector added fakes and forgeries, intentionally or unintentionally, then chances are quite high that others exist in the album(s).
Of course it is great fun to hunt for rarities and I certainly recommend that we all examine our stamps closely for that elusive find. But I always start with the assumption that any rare stamp I find is absolutely a fake/forgery/reprint and then work through the process of elimination to verify.

Hi..how can I tell if the overprint is forged? Does this look genuine? Unfortunately I can't send a clearer image at this time, as I don't have access to it physically right now..but some pointers would be great. Thank you.
