Hi..are there forgeries made of this stamp? I think I would find that difficult due to the specific raised letter printing but I'm not familiar if there's forgeries. Thank you.Image Not Found

What catalogue are you using? In Scott and Stanley Gibbons #8 is for the earlier "Sydney Views" stamps. Looks to be Scott #20. If it is NOT a forgery it is listed at 12,500. But I am sure an expert will chime in soon.

A clearer scan would be helpful. Happy

Cheers,
Eric

Your stamp is definitely a Van Dyck reprint, the colour is a good indicator, the original is a dull orange, the reprint is yellow.

There is also a blue eight pence reprint by the same fellow.

The following link will explain more about your stamp, your stamp is halfway down the page under the title "1851-1855. QUEEN VICTORIA. LAUREATE. EIGHT PENCE Genuine vs. Reprints".

Just click onto the stamp and it will be enlarged.

And a little history on the forger and associates.

Rob, Is your moniker the 1938 KGVI and QE specimen overprinted stamp particularly rare?
I'm seeing one at auction and think it will not go for much and wondering if I might Should bid on it.

Hi AntoniusRa

My avatar showing the 1938 KG VI Coronation Specimen is rare. They are not easy to find and before you bid see if it comes with a certificate of authenticity, never bid on one that doesn't have a certificate supplied (the certificate cannot be photocopies), forgeries do exist.

The certificate can be from any registered expertiser, if you can get one cheaply, great.

The specimen and certificate.

There is also a McCracken version.

Good luck.

Hi AntoniusRa

Just touching base, how did you go with the 1938 £1 Coronation specimen?
