Did you check with BNAPS (British North American Philatelic society)? I think they've a catalogue.
Check www.bnaps.org
David in Ottawa, Ont.
I did David but could not find out where or when Would you know a title ...maybe postmarks? that would narrow the search?
Cheryl
There is a Fancy Cancels and Miscellaneous Markings study group.
Looks like they have all of their newsletters online.
http://www.bnaps.org/hhl/n-fcm.htm
They do not appear to be indexed or searchable, so a bit of a hunt and peck job perhaps.
Hi Cheryl--I have a copy of a BNAPS Handbook titled "Canadian Fancy Cancellations of the Nineteenth Century" by K.M.Day and E.A. Smythies--it is a second edition reprinted in 1981.Probably out of print by now.
It has one page showing 20 different Canadian crown cancels with a listing of known info on the various cancels.Nothing is identified as a provincial crown cancel but what you are looking for may be shown.I will send you a copy of this page.
Based on our previous communications on Flag Cancels and Royal visit cancels I can see you with a whole new collecting interest.
Harold
Thank you both very much!!!!
Cheryl
Hi Cheryl,
if you can post a scan of your cancelation, we could possibly help you more...
I have the "Boggs" rweference book named
"The Postage stamps and Postal History of Canada" in it we have a lot of information on the 19 century cancellations....
Jacques
Cheryl:
Note there are forgeries of the House of Commons crow cancels.
David
These are the cancels that I am wanting somr inf...where and when used Cheryl
Cheryl---according to Day and Smythies handbook(see my earlier reference to this book) this is described as a crown outline in a circle with Ottawa being the originating Post Office and was in use from 1880-1905.They note the long use--other crowns listed in their handbook have short periods of use or useage dates are not known. As per my private message a copy of the page with crown cancels is in the mail enroute to you
Harold
