i did it for about a year.. was really fun ! Just not enough time to do all the fun things I like :-)
Might have to go back and do it again for a bit.
This strikes me as a very cool idea. Just signed up this week and sent my first one off to Germany.
I've dabbled with postcrossing over the past few years. Have sent/received about 30 postcards in total. It's nice to get something other than bills in the mail!
If you're looking for ongoing correspondents, though, I would alternatively suggest one of the penpal introduction services. WIth postcrossing, most contacts are one and done. Also, I don't think you can select the countries you will get cards from. It's completely random. If you like to collect worldwide postcards, though, postcrossing is a great choice!
Eric
I've been involved with POSTCROSSING for a couple of years now. I usually have 10 - 12 Post Cards coming and going at a time. I think my number of "sent" and "received" is around 500 Post Cards. Occasionally a sender will comment that he or she collects stamps. In my reply "Thank you" message I ask if they might be interested in exchanging stamps. I've had several interesting trades this way.
My observation has been that the software is just a little different from what I was used too - and then I discovered that POSTCROSSING was conceived in Spain. This reminded me that when I worked for GE, Med. Systems, Programs, we outsourced some software development to a Japanese company. It was SO different that we couldn't use it. I think you will find that most Postcrossers are located in Europe - very much so in Russia and the former Soviet Republics. A Postcrosser in Germany has recently explained to me that they have POSTCROSSING Clubs and meet regularly.
I have been a member of Postcrossing for a few years. I enjoy the excitement of waiting for a card to come in the mail. I don't send many, and times go by that I don't send any at all for 2 or 3 months, but I am still active.
There is also another group, Postcards United. It is the same thing as Postcrossing, but I find that I get cards from a lot of places different then from Postcrossing.
Either one or both can be fun. I have also mentioned in my messages on the cards that I am a stamp collector. I have made a few trades with people though postcrossing as well.
There was a Postcrossing "meet-up" in Ottawa, Canada, last week. Unfortunately, I had to work... but we are organising one for October og this year, on a Sunday.

Hi, everybody!
Postcrossing.com is good, but its forum section is much better!
https://forum.postcrossing.com/
In both sites, my username is dorinco. I participated in the past 10 years. I was not ecstatic about the 11 sample random exchanges from postcrossing.com.
Yes, surprises can be fun, but I knew that I prefer to exchange specifically what I want, with whoever I want, if they agree. Although some degree of surprise is still possible, in the Round Robins section, etc.
I got great exchanges, with people from around the world!
You should explore the forum!!!

I have been a member of the Postcrossing community since last August, following Dorincard's suggetion for my Stamp Out War project that requires the participation of people around the world. While I am less fond (but still quite fond) of the idea of randomly receiving postcards from a total stranger, I am totally in love with their forum. It's a very vibrant community with a lot of generous people. Many of them do collect stamps / postmarks / etc. as well, so you can easily find someone with shared interest to interact with.
Happy Postcrossing!
P.S. I am based in Montreal, Canada, but I do a lot of giveaway with Japanese philatelic materials.
I have been a member of Postcrossing for a few years..Excellent way to connect with others all around the world.
I would highly recommend joining ... Happy Postcard Day~~!!!
Hmmm. Like Delda, I was uneasy about receiving cards from total strangers, and decided that it would be better for marital harmony to drop out of it. I don't want to arouse anxiety unnecessarily. So I opted out.
I am single and I live alone, so I have no concern about marital harmony. I am less fond of the 'Postcrossing' part of the whole thing mainly because a postcard only provides very limited space for writing, and I am the kind of person who really likes to delve into the depth of a discussion.
Originally, I was skeptical that messages received through official Postcrossing might tend to be shallow in content, as the limited space on a postcard does not allow lengthy elaboration of one's ideas, and that I wouldn't get to be acquainted properly with the sender. However, I found that this is not necessarily the case, because once the card is registered, we can message the sender through his/her profile. Of course it depends on the others to keep in touch of further a discussion, but the system does give us a chance to know those people.
And since I am far more active on the forum than on official Postcrossing, I got to develop friendship with some of the forum users with whom I share similar interests. It's quite an enjoyable experience overall I would say.
I joined Postcrossing several years ago I sent off my first card and received a nice card in return the next one I sent I never recieved a reply the third one I sent the same thing .So i dropped out I don't know if the members I sent to we new like me ,or just takers?
