John, when you write
"I believe we are slowly fading. I have looked for a club/group in Nashville with a metro population of 1.6 mm, no longer! Anyone? I maintain the small Jewish population does not help."
I must admit that I am left puzzled. Could you expand on your thoughts here a bit more?

Am I the only viewer of this post who has no idea what the OP is talking about? Who is 'BargainBill'? Is this an Ebay seller? An online dealer? Who??
Probably not a subject I should touch but someone has to. the OP might be better advised to curtail all the stuff about Jews. He did this on a prior post. I am not one of those politically correct killjoys, but others on here might take offense/misunderstand. Way not a good idea, just saying.
Well, well. What a bunch here. When stamp collecting was popular it was my Jewish friends who really were most active. Today I may see some of my old Jewish friends and some are still collecting. They agree there is little interest in trying to get a club going. As far as I know I've yet to meet a black stamp collector. Is that offensive to you snowflakes?
Rest assured I'll stay away. I may still read the comments.
You have Jewish friends? We are "snowflakes"? No, please, just stay away. Actually, just go away. I understand there's a rocket leaving soon for Mars....
Bob
I knew this would go south quickly.
BargainBill is likely a reference to Bill Langs. He is a dealer and is big on ebay with a store called BargainBillstamps. I think he sells under more than one store.
I still wonder people assess the hobby by physical stamp clubs. I have attended one local one in the past but it is too far to drive and was not that interesting.
The online ones are active 24x7, have auctions, moderated discussion, and more geographical diversity, etc.
Bob, book me on that rocket flight.
I am sure the OP meant no offense, nor did I take any. The repeated references to Jews he makes just strikes me as a bit strange, but maybe that's my own hangup. I was merely suggesting it might be well to not keep casually making comments that could make visitors feel unwelcome.
I have indeed met Black stamp collectors. One is a member of my local stamp club and has served on the APS board of directors. Maybe the OP needs to expand his horizons, attend some national shows and get out of Nashville more often.
I also think the appellation 'Snowflake' has no place on a hobby discussion board. It's snarky and sarcastic. Again JMO.
Stamporama is a STAMP CLUB. It's unfortunate that there are people who cannot see beyond their own walls. We have members of every race and colour here as well as a large age range.
Of course, this post comes from someone who despite being a member of SOR from almost the beginning is apparently viewed as a "less than" by the original writer of this thread. I do not fit into any "acceptable" category within the box in which he lives, as I'm disabled, believe that my service dogs have given me tremendous independence that I would not otherwise have due to my disabilities. But then again, what do I know? I've only got 11 university degrees.
As far as purchasing from unscrupulous dealers, buyer beware, there are more honest than dishonest stamp collectors in the world.
"Could you expand on your thoughts here a bit more?"
In the future I'll monitor the board and not comment unless something is posted that absolutely demands my thoughts. God knows it will not be about minorities.
I wonder if any here were drawn to collecting because of one single stamp. I was an 8-9 yo lad getting started when I found it....the big colorful 1937 Honduras (C84) with the crossed flags of the US and Honduras with a bright yellow sun above. I still have it prominently displayed in my Governor Album containing my best world wides.
I began collecting after finding a Botswana stamp in a cereal box.
Now I've returned to collecting and see $100 stamps for exaggerated prices. Say, $1000 I know most do not buy these, but some might. Anyway, I do not like this and if BargainBill is looking for a sucker I think I'll not buy from him. Collecting is a hobby and I feel better buying from a seller who loves stamps and is not trolling among new and less sophisticated collectors. I have many really nice stamps collected over many years and do not recall pricing in these distasteful ways. At least as it seems now. This is a bit naive, but some here may agree.
Also, how many of us like the front of a stamp and not the back? Looking at gradations, some are wrong at least in my eye. Gorgeous, Fresh, Misleading, on it goes.
I believe we are slowly fading. I have looked for a club/group in Nashville with a metro population of 1.6 mm, no longer! Anyone? I maintain the small Jewish population does not help.
