I watched this. I bought one of these, I think part one, back in 2012 when they came out. I had to return it because the mounts were applied with too much moisture and the pages were wrinkled and wavy.I don't mean just a few wrinkles on the back of the pages, it was so bad the whole page looked crummy. They sent replacement pages, same thing. Got my money back minus postage. I went back to the regular album but now wonder- does anyone else on here use the hingeless Mystic and if so have you noted any problem like this?
It occurs that I could buy the card stock pages from Mystic and place my own mounts on them using gluestick to avoid this issue. Any comments?
Cross posting alert: I do have a similar thread on SCF relating to this but noted the video on this one. The pages shown in it do not show anything like the issues I had. Appreciate comment.
It looks like a nice album so interested in feedback. I have a standard Mystic and there is some slight wrinkling of pages sometimes. I had thought maybe replacing my early albums (up to 1938) with a hingeless.
I looked several times at the part where he leafed through the album ans saw none of the issues I'd had a few year back.It may be they got those straightened out. I'd also like anyone using the Mystic hingeless to check in and comment.
I don't own one, but I have gotten pages from them when I have purchased stamps and the vendor sent the page with the stamps onboard. I haven't noticed any wrinkling issues with them. The paper thickness is somewhat more than a Harris (which I would compare to photocopy paper). It is significantly less than something like a lighthouse hingeless (my preference). Three ring binders can in my experience be subject to tearing if used alot or carelessly which is another reason I prefer the albums with better (in my opinion) binders.
I think you have to evaluate the pros and cons based on your own preferences and usage habits as well as the budgetary factor. Mystic seems pricey to me for what they provide.
Yes they are pricey but I am doing this as an upgrade, I already have invested in their binders, etc. I had a several minute discussion with their customer service rep this morning. They wouldn't comment on any prior issues- I expected that- but quoted me a price of $48 for the printed album pages -part one- w/o mounts. The hingeless pages only are $74. I will give the hingeless another shot. I suspected they upgraded the paper stock on these.
Will see what happens..
Part one pages arrived today, just fine. None of the mount issues I'd run into previously. It is clear they changed the paper stock. All nice and smooth, mounts neatly applied, like you'd see in Lighthouse products.
In putting the pages into one of their binder I already had, I cut my right index finger and got stains on two pages. Assume I can pay for replacements.
Apart from the injury, I'm happy.
Great and ouch.
Pigeon blood color on your pages?
More like the Scarlet shade on a two cent from the first Bureau Issue.
I emailed them last night and today got an email from their Customer Service supervisor, she is mailing two replacement pages today. No charge.
One reason to buy products that are US made.
Just one complaint, this album does not provide for BOB issues. Airs, yes. Special Delivery, Parcel Post, etc, no. I have those on my old non hingelesss pages, but with black mounts so will need to buy a new set for those. Maybe I can copy them onto thicker paper to match. Souvenir sheets have top open mounts, not split backs. I had been worried about transferring my White Plains sheet- it has some perf seperations.
Can you post some pics?
Once I get some of my stuff in the new album will try to post some pics. Never done that on here before but shouldn't be too difficult.
Update, they do make a BOB set of pages, sold separately from the rest of the pages, not listed for some reason in their catalog, you need to call to order.
Here is a video that shows details on Mystic's Hingeless albums and other albums. It is pretty light and a true infomercial.
