90 Euros versus $7.50 USD. My bet is that the seller didn't want to part with it for that buy price.
I agree with Michael. What was the seller's eBay rating?
He sells for other collectors...he had a couple of red marks out of about 5 thousand...its pretty crummy to say the item shipped if it did not. I will keep an eye out for it on ebay.
i just purchased one from a guy in the U.K. for 10.50 plus 3 bucks shipping..i am content !
Something similar happened to me, I won a stamp on a $10.00 bid, when I received the stamp it was not the stamp I won so I contacted the guy and ask him what was he going to do about it, he told me to keep the stamp, which I gladly did since it was a much higher CV stamp, and he would send me a refund which he did.
Few days later I see the original stamp I bid for listed again so I bid $6.25 this time and won the stamp again. I did received the correct stamp this time so as far as I can tell it was a great deal for me.
I'm not very familiar with the mechanics of ebay but can't help to wonder how people lists minimum value stamps for 99 cents and charge you $1.50 for shipping, needless to say that those stamps don't sell but they keep relisting them, aren't they paying listing fees?
Tony, no; eBay offers a limited number of listings for free; fees are incurred only if sold, so it doesn't penalize folks for listing overpriced crap.
Currently on ebay UK I can list 100 items per day and only pay listing fees if an item sells.
You must list the item for at least 5 days.
The number of free monthly listings, deferred fee listings, etc. varies according to the seller's activities. I was getting 100 no fee listings per month, but have cut down on the number of listings I have, so they dropped me down to 50 no fee listings per month. People with stores have different perks.
The catalog's listing was 90.00 Euros which is now about $100.oo.
The cover sells for less than 10.oo.
Was that really a good deal or was the listed "value" grossly over inflated ?
If it were offered to a professional dealer what would be offered, $2.oo ???
Carrying it in a collection at what price would be being honest with oneself ?
If there is a nice collection with the covers and stamps carefully annotated at a "feel good" price, is that not setting up heirs for disappointment and possibly the accusation that all dealers are thieves ?
I've seen that disappointment many times, as well as the suspicion in people who only saw the dollar signs in an inherited album.
So I wonder, for members who keep meticulous records and notations, at what value should someone place an item like this ?
Last month i saw a cover on ebay that i had been searching for years...Netherlands first day cover E16 from 1954..i had an empty spot in my collection ...i had never seen that one,,the Netherlands Specialized catalog listed its value at 90 euros. so i placed an intial bid of $7.50 and to my surprise i won the cover. I was elated..the cover was supposed to arrive from a dealer here in the U.S. between May 1 and May 5. It never arrived..this hardly ever happens unless some part time mail carrier delivered it to a similar address and that homeowner never put it back in the mailstream. I notified ebay and told them i wanted the item, not the refund.. by return email i received a refund from the seller. The seller would not correspond with me when i asked about tracking. Nine times out of 10 i would have
accepted the loss more or less graciously...but to me this was a big loss. I can only wonder where the cover is .
