I would like to start collecting France and the French colonies. Which pages are more comprehensive, Scott or Steiner? Also can anybody tell me if the Scott French Colonies 1859-1956 covers Indochine?

I would appreciate any input.

The French Colonies Album contains the following countries:

French Colonies 1859-1956 (126 Pages). Contains spaces for stamps from French Colonies 1859-1945, French Guiana 1886-1947, French India 1892-1954, Guadeloupe 1884-1947, Inini 1932-41, Martinique 1886-1947, Mayotte 1892-1912, Rouad 1916, and French Occupation Issues: Castellorizo 1920, Cilicia 1919-21, Germany 1945-49, Hungary 1919, Saar 1947-56

Scott doesn't have Specialty Album pages for French South-east Asia.

The Steiner pages contain spaces for all the major catalog numbered stamps as listed in Scott Catalog. Tat is the same as the Scott Specialty Albums (those that are in print). Steiner, for many countries, includes pages for minor varieties as well.

re: France Scott Specialty or Steiner

There are some specialty pages for France-SE Asia, as well as France-Middle East, but I cannot tell you in what Book format it is sold by Scott, as I have moved my pages around making my own albums by geographical regions. I do have pages for Indochina!

There are some Scott pages on France-Africa There are 2 Albums, Vol 1 A-I and Vol 2 F-U
The first one is out of print and virtually impossible to find in used form (I last bid on a collection with very few stamps just for the pages, but gave up as the price went well above $100) The second Album for Africa is more readily available.

France Offices Abroad is another Scott Specialty album to note. It has pages for Offices in China, Crete, Egypt, Turkish Empire and Zanzibar. (I have an extra set of pages should anyone want to make me an offer)
I have never quite understood the logic of Scott in putting these albums together.

I have tried to standardize my collection, for France and Colonies, on Scott Specialty. But if I had to do it again, I would opt for Steiner any day! Still looking for good pages for Africa Vol 1 A-I

Scott French Middle East and French Asia are long out of production.

French Africa is available. Part 1 lists new for $129.99 through Scott ("Amos Advantage" is less). Other discounted pricing can be found.

I obtained most of my Scott Specialty pages through buying collections, or supply lots in auctions that had the pages.

I have my France in four hingeless albums published by Yvert. They use the Yvert catalog numbers which is a plus if you buy from sources there. I found a source in France that sells the Yvert line at a 20% discount and I get orders in a few days.

This is perhaps a bit more than the OP wants to get into right now. I can post links if anyone is interested.

I have the Scott Specialty France album as well as all of the French colony albums.
I have no need to want anything else as far as the colonies go. As far as France goes the Scott Specialty pages only show the major numbers but there are a great deal of sub numbers in he early issues which you may want to collect. For 19th century France I have used modified Steiner formats printed on Scott Specialty pages to show many of the sub numbers especially color variants.
You can see the pages by following the link below. All of the pages before 1876 are pages I made from Steiner formats, adding spaces for sub numbers. 1876 and up are Scott pages.
