Hello!

I presently live near Cleveland, Ohio, and have been an enthusiast since age five or six when I cajoled my grandmother into buying a Harris stamp album for me at a big-box toy store back in the mid-1970s, I had absolutely no idea what it was, only that I was drawn to the cover's colorful mosaic of stamps. Over time I discovered I preferred the older, 19th-century issues, and soon (with the help of scissor-wielding relatives, and a monthly allowance) amassed a respectable "intermediate" collection dotting Harris "Liberty" and "Citation" albums. Dad would take me to stamp shows, shops, and flea markets in my native Buffalo, New York for years. Unfortunately, at the age of 20 I foolishly sold off my beloved collection in order to secure a modest down payment for a crappy Mitsubishi Precis. (Besides, my collecting interests had shifted to phonograph records, then books, and then a dozen other hobbies.) Well, the Precis is long gone, but my dormant fascination of philately has remained. Over the past few years I have picked up a few old beginner's collections, and am futilely resisting the urge to re-enter the fray. Anyway, I plan on eventually building a more focused collection of pre-1950 issues, and particularly love early USA revenues. I'm enjoying your discussions, and have been dusting off much of my own neglected knowledge. I'm looking forward to rekindling the camaraderie I had felt at those bustling stamp shows where seasoned collectors and dealers were always willing to share their wisdom, kindness and encouragement. "Ye are the salt of the earth"!

Welcome from Manitoba, settle in and enjoy. Don't think the stamp bug ever really leaves, just hides awhile.

re: Hello from Northeast Ohio!

Welcome,

I prefer classic stamps myself (pre 1940), but break that rule all the time. U.S., Great Britain, Australia, and most recently colonial Africa.

Amazingly, I kept my childhood world-wide collection -- which is worth about $50.00. I just as well could have tossed it, but there is some sentimental value there.

Cheers!
Eric

Welcome! Your history is similar to mine. A period of less activity but always an interest. Now, I am spending more time on it. Some like reading, doing suduko (thinking it is good for the brain), or assembling puzzles but stamps offer more fun.

re: Hello from Northeast Ohio!

Welcome! We all seem to have the same story. I gave up my collection around 1980, but fortunately just stored it away. When eBay appeared 20 years ago, I started collecting a small specialty area (see my avatar). Two summers ago I got the bug to pull out the hoard and see if I could assemble a USA collection. Then I found my New Jersey postmark collection started in 1974, and have been adding covers to that at a mad clip.

re: Hello from Northeast Ohio!

Welcome, from a Cleveland expat, who, like you, got rid of my early collection and started again. My earlier stuff was worthless and priceless, and I wish I had it back. welcome
