How about the irony that the coins pictured are from a banking system that was on the gold standard which by the time these stamps were issued, we had abandoned four before. I am sure that is not coincidental.
I am not saying we should still be on the gold standard but I wonder if the old coins were meant as symbolic of security of the banking system when the dollar was no longer secured to gold.
We had a Republican President when that issue came out in 1975. Just saying..
And a Republican President "Herbert Hoover" when it happened, the irony of it all
