I came across a stamp awhile ago and put it aside and forgot about it till I came upon it the other day and decided to find out about it.
Gugh Island is one of the Scilly Islands off the coast of Cornwall in the UK.From what I can find this particular Island is uninhabited .St Agnes joins the island of Gugh by a tombolo, a kind of sandbar, called the Gugh Bar, which is accessable at low tide and you are able to walk across. As I was looking at some of the images of the island I came across this one.

It reminded me of a holiday we had in Koh Samui,Thailand a few years ago, were I took this photo ,it's call Grandpa Rock.

And here is the stamp that started it all.it has a few crinkles ,so if you would like it and have any orders with me you are welcome to it.first to message me gets it !!!

re: Gugh Island were is it ??

Hi Everyone'

Just a tip for you all, especially postal history buffs, about officially uninhabited islands.

I have a Canadian stamp from the 60s or 70s that has a cancel from a so-called unin-
habited island in the Atlantic. I Googled this island, and found that it is only uninhabited
in the off fishing season. During fishing season only, there are many fishermen that are
living there in temporary tents and barracks. They then leave after the season is over
to return to the mainland and their families.

These Atlantic waters are very over fished and many species of fish now have very shortened
seasons to protect the fish stock. This is probably the case in most places in the world also.

Your island sounds like not much more than a sandbar, and not likely used by fisherman as
temporary shelter. But many other near off-shore islands probably are used this way, and
therefore are not really uninhabited. So my stamp cancel was not contrived for philatelic
purposes, but was actually used to mail a letter from this fishing island.

Does anyone familiar with postal history or private post islands have any additional
experiences with fishermen and temporary housing situations like this? Cheryl maybe?

Just FYI....

re: Gugh Island were is it ??

I believe that Belle Isle in the Strait of Belle Isle between Newfoundland and Labrador is inhabited with seasonal fishermen and tourists Not sure it the mail is posted from the island or on a Paquett Boat. I have seen the Belle Island cancellation.
Other islands off the Atlantic are used in the summer for grazing sheep but I
m not aware of there being any postal connection Then of course there are the local posts of Kaulbach Island All bogus but very popular with collectors
I have been in contact with the owner for more info on the stamp issues If you google Kaulbach Island it is for sale for a modest $$$$$$million.I shan`t
be purchasing it as then I would have to change my name to Lady Grantham...lolRolling On The Floor Laughing
