I waited just over 3½ years for this stamp; now I'm on the hunt for it's twin, the McCracken issue, though I've been told by an internationally renowned specialist I could be waiting awhile, if a well centred or superbly centred MUH one turns up.
Not a bad idea; yes I will crack a bubbly for this purchase.

Take some scissors and trim .005" off the bottom, and the centering will be magnificent!
Good find tho....ugh where did I leave my beer....

True, I am very committed and very specific to my stamp collecting, as one can see in the quality of my collection. It takes a long time to accumulate such a collection just like the £1 Robes Specimen, which had taken me a little over 3½ years to find, I have seen a few come to my attention and I declined to buy any until this little beauty came along.
Of all the £1 Robes Specimens I have seen in 40 years this would have to be the holy grail of the Coronation Robes; when I find its twin, the McCracken Specimen (less than 200 were printed), I will have completed a very rare Coronation series involving all printings pertaining to papers, shades, specimens and major varieties.
There is more to come, including a block of 4 George V Victorian Government perfin error.

Beautiful - I'm sure the wait was worth it once you had that in your hand. Congrats on finding it. I know what "the hunt" is like and I spent 15 years searching for the stamp I wanted. There is still one more that I want and if it takes another 15 years - so be it.

The detail in this stamp is phenomenal. I put it up with my magnifying system on my computer and just seeing it inch by inch is just fabulous. The engraving is so perfect.
It truly is beautiful.

Thank you. The master engraver Frank Manley showed his intricate expert skill when he engraved the £1 Coronation stamp.
Only 2,860 were printed and much less were bought. The McCracken issue was less than 200 (it looks like I'm going to be in for a long wait), but I will be in the shadows waiting for it to appear.
I thought waiting 3½ years for that particular £1 specimen was a long time; it's a walk around the block compared to your 15 years. And yes, what's so good about stamp collecting, is the hunt.

It is a phenomenal stamp, and in my opinion the most intricately designed and engraved stamp ever printed in Australia since Federation (1901) to the present date.
Your magnifying system would have done the stamp justice as well as you experiencing the work of the master engraver Frank Manley.

I really like the background pattern. So precise! The division of lines and the way he created the background design itself is a masterpiece, to say nothing of the rest of the stamp.

I agree, it's also a pity such a precise skill is no longer seen with the stamps we have today; and considering the detailing was done on small soft metal plates, it's just incredible.

It is a phenomenal stamp, and in my opinion the most intricately designed and engraved stamp ever printed in Australia since Federation (1901) to the present date.
